Five Warwick police recruits were members of the class of 33 recruits to graduate last week from the Rhode Island Municipal Police Training Academy.
The 33 graduates will serve in 16 law enforcement agencies throughout Rhode Island: Charlestown, Cranston, Cumberland, Glocester, Johnston, Lincoln, Narragansett, North Kingstown, Pawtucket, Portsmouth, Tiverton, Warwick, West Warwick and Woonsocket Police Departments, and the Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management’s Division of Law Enforcement and the University of Rhode Island Police Department.
The graduation ceremony was held at the Community College of Rhode Island Flanagan Campus in Lincoln, where the gymnasium was packed with law enforcement officials from local, state and federal agencies and family members and friends of the graduating class.
Colonel James Manni of the Rhode Island State Police and Jamestown Police Chief Edward Mello, chairman of the Rhode Island Police Officers Commission on Standards and Training (POST) addressed the graduates.
The graduation marked the end of 20-week training program that began in January, with a curriculum that includes the Rhode Island General Laws and Motor Vehicle Code, as well as training in specific areas of police work from operating emergency vehicles to dealing with active shooter situations.
Warwick Police recruits graduating are Zachary J. Black, Brenen J. Cardoza, John P. McKinnon III, Stephanie R. Pabis, and Oliver M. Pinheiro.
