Conimicut resident John Paul, who has organized the Conimicut Earth Day cleanup for Save the Bay for years, delayed the start of Saturday’s effort until the rain stopped and afternoon skies brightened. A total of 42 people showed up with a large contingent of volunteers from Infrosys, a technology company, augmented by Conimicut Village Association members and regulars intent on keeping the beaches clean. “I’m happy to say we didn’t find one tire,” Paul said. In prior years volunteers have picked up two or three tires if not more. What was troubling, however, is that 12 hypodermic needles were collected. Paul said he would be altering community police.
