Warwick Police Log 09-24-2020

DUI

Just before 12:30 a.m. on Sept. 18, Detective Hovsep Sarkisian and Officer Michael Bailey were conducting a directed patrol focused on impaired motorists when another officer, Brenen Cardoza, reported he had stopped a possibly intoxicated driver on West Shore Road near Bend Street.

At the scene, Cardoza told Sarkisian and Bailey that the operator had exhibited bloodshot, watery eyes and slurred his speech. Cardoza also said he had detected the odor of alcohol on the operator’s breath.

Sarkisian then spoke with the operator and confirmed Cardoza’s observations. The operator is said to have acknowledged consuming alcohol that night. He is also said to have initially agreed to undergo field sobriety testing before refusing to continue part of the way through.

Russell S. Miller Jr., 32, 1775 Phenix Ave., Cranston, was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence and transported to Warwick Police headquarters for processing. While at headquarters, he is said to have refused a chemical breath test.

Miller was later released into the custody of a sober adult with a summons to appear in Third Division District Court on a charge of driving under the influence. He was additionally cited for refusal to submit to a chemical test, speeding and landed roadway violations.

DRIVING WITHOUT CONSENT

Just after 10 p.m. on Sept. 9, Officer Kyle Fitzsimmons was conducting a fixed patrol at the Job Lot on Warwick Avenue, in the area of Pilgrim Parkway, when he observed two vehicles traveling south on Warwick Avenue at a high rate of speed.

Fitzsimmons followed the vehicles to the parking lot of the Governor Francis Inn, at which point he made contact with the operators. A records check revealed one of the vehicles, a blue Hyundai, was reported stolen out of Providence. The vehicle was supposed to be bearing New Hampshire license plates, but instead it had Rhode Island registration.

Beholdsen Plymouth, 18, 575 Dyer Ave., Apt. E116, Cranston, was arrested on a charge of driving without consent of owner and transported to Warwick Police headquarters for processing. He was later released with a summons to appear in Third Division District Court.

The other operator was released from the scene with no charges.

LARCENY

At approximately 1:30 p.m. on Sept. 5, Officer Steven Moretti responded to the Cranberry Pond Apartments on Post Road for a report of larceny.

At the scene, the reporting party – the owner of a construction company – told Moretti he had left tools and materials in the rear of one of the buildings at the complex at approximately 6 p.m. on Sept. 3. When he returned to the site on Sept. 5, four pump jacks – described as 24-foot steel beams with rubber pads on each side – were missing. The jacks are said to have a combined value of $3,600.

Moretti sought footage from a security camera observed at the scene. The matter was documented. ***

At approximately 9 a.m. on Sept. 16, Officer James Vible met with a woman at Warwick Police headquarters regarding a stolen purse.

The reporting party told Vible she had parked her 2019 Hyundai Tucson in her home’s driveway the previous night. When she returned at around 7 a.m. that morning, she “discovered all items in the front cab tossed about.” A Louis Vuitton handbag with a value of $1,200 was found to be missing. The handbag contained a driver’s license and a credit card.

No other vehicles on the street appeared to have been entered. No witnesses or suspects were immediately identified, and the matter was documented and forwarded to detectives. ***

At approximately 11:20 a.m. on Sept. 16, Officer Evan Johnson met with a woman at Warwick Police headquarters regarding a larceny complaint.

The reporting party told Johnson she had gone to the emergency room at Kent Hospital for treatment at approximately 4 p.m. on Sept. 11. She said she accidentally left her purse in the waiting room when her name was called and did not realize it was missing until six hours later. The purse, valued at $40, contain a Samsung phone valued at $500 along with a driver’s license, Social Security card, birth certificate, medical cards and glasses.

Johnson contacted security at Kent Hospital, who were unable to locate the purse. The matter was documented.

WARRANTS

At approximately 8:42 p.m. on Sept. 11, Officer Stanley Hermanowski was conducting a patrol in the area of West Natick Avenue and Bald Hill Road when he observed to women walking on the sidewalk.

Hermanowski made contact with the women, one of whom was found through a records check to be wanted on four bench warrants issued from Sixth Division District Court.

Kylie Murphy, 31, 15 Hayes St., Providence, was taken into custody on the warrants and transported to Warwick Police headquarters for processing. She was later transported to the Adult Correctional Institutions.
