Season on hold, but Warwick North receives renovations

Posted

Despite the COVID-19 pandemic putting the Little League season on hold, Warwick North is still preparing for a season, regardless of when the hard start date will be.

Along with staying in touch with players and families during this time, North also received help from Matthew Pirraglia and his union brothers from Carpenter’s Union Local 330 of Rhode Island and Eastern Massachusetts to help with some renovations at the West Side Complex.

Along with Pirraglia and his union brothers, North also received help from Matthew Colantonio from 401 Painting and Construction LLC. Other league members pitched in as well to make the renovations.

Some of the renovations included improved dugouts, an updated field house at Sprague Field, as well as some basic field maintenance along the way.

“We renovated the dugouts in the small fields for the safety of the kids. We worked on the fieldhouse. It’s good because it shows that we are getting ready to have a season, we’re doing things to make the ballfields safe and fun for the kids. Whether it is this year or next year, we are doing what we can for the kids,” said first-year North president Sean Wiggins. “To get 10 guys down there for eight hours, to donate their time and to come from all over Rhode Island, Massachusetts, various parts of New England, doing stuff for our league, it’s great. We want to make sure that our facilities are safe and ready to go.”

As the local Little League community remains patient and excited to hit the field once again, Wiggins urges league members to stay hopeful and optimistic during this time of uncertainty.

“We are hopeful, every discussion that we have had as a board and as a family at Warwick North has been positive and that we are going to do what we can to make sure we can play, there has been no negativity,” said Wiggins. “We want to be here for our families and do whatever makes them comfortable once the season does start. The atmosphere here has been optimistic, parents want their kids to be active, so we are optimistic moving forward.”
