In preparation for the lantern and jack-o-lantern night Wednesday, Oct. 20 from 6 to 8 p.m. on Winman Middle School grounds, students have been making lanterns by submersing strands of yarn in glue and applying them to an inflated balloon. Once the glue hardens, the balloon is popped to reveal the lantern. Janice Conklin, one of the teachers organizing the event, said the evening will include a nite-hike through the woods, arts and crafts, a scare crow, a photo booth and star gazing among other things. Here, Avery Couture and Morgan Muldoon go about the sticky business of making a lantern. Elixas Phath displays a completed lantern. (Warwick Beacon photos)
