Roundup: Pilgrim cruises past Toll Gate, remains in playoff hunt

The Pilgrim boys basketball team rolled past rival Toll Gate 61-26 to pick up its seventh win in 10 games and remain in the thick of the Division II playoff picture.

Carter Clifton led Pilgrim with 14 points, followed by Dylan Vale with 13 and Cole Bigelli with nine.

The Pats improved to 6-5 with the win but would fall to first-place Lincoln the following contest.

Toll Gate was led by Jack Colvin with seven points and fell to 2-10.

Hendricken 62, Smithfield 40

The Hawks rebounded after a tough loss to Barrington to pick up a key Division I win over the Sentinels. Christian Butera led Hendricken with 13 points, followed by James Caldarella with 12 to improve to 9-3.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Toll Gate 53, Lincoln 45

The Titans remained in third place in Division III with a win over the Lions. Adeline Areson led the way with 30 points, followed by Mary McNulty and Amanda Preston in scoring.

Pilgrim 54, Lincoln 52

The Pats snapped their losing streak last week with a win over the Lions. Kiera Maher and Lily Hall led the way in points scored with 13 each while Ariana Keebler added nine.

BOYS HOCKEY

Hendricken 11, Moses Brown 0

The Hawks continued to surge when they shut out Moses Brown. Griffin Crain and Mason Crain each scored a pair of goals while Jack LaRose, Devin Exter, Aiden Craft, Cullen Crain, Nick Stevens, Nate Marshall and Colton SImas also found the back of the net. Colin Murray stopped all 11 shots faced in net.

Barrington 3, Pilgrim 2

Despite taking a 2-1 lead into the second period, the Pats were unable to hold off the Eagles last week in the Division I showdown. Kyle Menard scored both of Pilgrim’s goals in the first period.
