The Pilgrim girls volleyball team is rebuilding this fall season and sits at 2-8 overall. The
Pats got wins over Johnston (3-0) and Rogers (3-0) but have struggled lately, dropping its
last four matches.

Although the team has been going through some growing pains, it has been noticing
some improvement. The Pats fell to East Providence 3-1 in their latest matchup, which
was only the third set the Townies lost this season as they sit in first place with a 10-0
record.

“We have a young team this year and each match we play, we’re improving in different
aspects of the game. We are competing with teams each night,” said Pilgrim coach Kelly
Harrington. “The girls love the sport and they work hard at practice. They’re coachable
and want to improve. They absorb the information and try to get better each day.”
The Pats have been led by Kayli Sherlock, Avery Adams, Avery Donovan and Marin
Prest.

“We rely on Kaylee for serve-receive and attacking. (Donovan) brings a lot of consistency
and effort and Marin has been a great addition to the roster. She’s fast and she’s
quick. She covers a lot of the court,” said Harrington.

The Pats have five more matches remaining on their regular season schedule and will
have to win four of them to clinch a playoff spot. It will be an uphill battle for Pilgrim, but
Harrington hopes the team continues on its upward trajectory as it builds for the future.

“We want to show up and compete. We want to end the season on a positive note. We’re
showing improvement, we’re looking to serve tough, run some plays, get better with our
serve-receive,” said Harrington. “We want to go out every night and put in a good effort
and play confidently and have some fun.”
Pilgrim will next take on Middletown for a road matchup on Thursday evening.
