Raymond T. Gardiner Sr., 98, a resident of Warwick for 66 years, passed away, Saturday, May 11, 2019. He was the loving husband of the late Mary L. (Brock) Gardiner. Born in Greystone, RI, he was a son of the late George F. and Lavinia (Bradbrook) Gardiner.

Mr. Gardiner was a United States Army Air Corp veteran of World War II serving in Iceland, Ireland, and England. He received the American Defense Service Medal, European African Middle Eastern Service Medal, and Good Conduct Medal. Mr. Gardiner continued his service for twenty years in the Air Force Reserve to the rank of Senior Master Sergeant. He worked for twenty-seven years as a flight test supervisor and aircraft mechanic at Quonset Point Naval Air Station. Mr. Gardiner retired from Quonset when it closed in 1973. After his retirement, he owned and operated the Sandy Lane Getty in Warwick. He sponsored many softball leagues. Mr. Gardiner was a member of the Massasoit Gun Club, and Assistant Scout Master, BSA Troop #17.

Mr. Gardiner was the beloved father of Margaret O’Connor, Joan Gardiner, Raymond T. Gardiner, Jr., Susan Adams, and the late Donald Gardiner; brother of the late George, Russell, and Robert Gardiner and Gloria McCrellias, all of California. He is also survived by numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held Friday, May 17, 2019, at 10 a.m. in the Thomas & Walter Quinn Funeral Chapel, 2435 Warwick Ave., Warwick. Burial with military honors will follow in the Rhode Island Veterans’ Cemetery, Exeter. Visiting hours, Thursday 5-8 p.m.
