DRUG ARREST

On Nov. 30, the Warwick Police Department’s Special Operations Group, with the assistance of the RI Department of Corrections Special Investigation Unit, executed a search warrant at 29 Dan St., Warwick, according to a WPD press release.

This raid resulted in the arrest of Jason Tallo, 38, of Warwick.

“The search yielded significant evidence including 17.1 ounces of cocaine, a sum of U.S. currency, and items related to the distribution of cocaine,” according to police. “Tallo was subsequently charged with possession with intent to deliver cocaine.”

On Dec. 1, Tallo was arraigned and held without bail, according to Warwick Police Detective Division Capt. John McAniff.

DUI

Around 12:55 a.m., Oct. 31, Warwick Police Officer Charles M. Walker was on patrol traveling east on Airport road near the Warwick Avenue intersection when he spotted a speeding vehicle. Walker estimated the vehicle was traveling around 65 miles per hour in a posted 35 mph zone.

According to the arrest report, the vehicle was swerving, so Walker initiated a traffic stop and identified the driver as Diego Lastor Quixan, 23, of 183 Althea St., Apt. 2, Providence. Police said he was not wearing his seatbelt and they smelled alcohol in the vehicle.

The driver allegedly admitted to police that he had been “drinking behind the wheel.”

Police asked Quixan to consent to a series of standardized field sobriety tests. Following the tests, police arrested and charged him with DUI of Liquor (0.15 or greater, first offense). Police also cited him for Speeding (11+ miles per hour in excess of posted limit), Presence of Alcoholic Beverages, and Laned Roadway violations.

VANDALISM

Around 8:40 a.m., Nov. 4, Warwick Police responded to the Hilton Garden Inn at 1 Thurbers Ave., following a report of “malicious damage.”

Upon arrival, police met with a guest of the hotel, who told them that he came out to the family vehicle, a gray Hyundai Tuscon, and found the rear passenger side window shattered.

“There was a substantial amount of moisture and condensation on the surfaces of the vehicle making fingerprint recovery impossible and there was not evidence that anything inside the vehicle had been manipulated (the vehicle was still locked),” according to the police report.

Police noted that “this incident could be related to an auto theft that occurred the same evening at another local hotel.”

DUI

Around 10:43 p.m., Nov. 4, Warwick Police Officer Evan P. Brown was on routine patrol traveling north on Post Road when a white 2014 Honda Accord pulled out in front of him. The vehicle accelerated quickly and then rapidly braked, according to Brown’s report.

The vehicle swerved several times, so Brown initiated a traffic stop. Police identified the driver as Martin Calachij De La Cruz, 39, of 35 Althea St., Providence.

Brown spotted “several unopen(ed) Heineken bottles on the floor” and a “bottle of wine” lying on the front passenger floor.

“As I approached the vehicle on the driver’s side, I observed Martin reaching over his right shoulder into the rear passenger compartment of the vehicle,” Brown wrote. “I did notice the bottle of wine was no longer in sight.”

Police asked where the wine went, but the driver didn’t answer.

Police asked the driver to consent to a series of standardized field sobriety tests. Following the tests, police arrested and charged De La Cruz with DUI of Liquor (BAC unknown, first offense). He was also cited for Refusal to Submit to a Chemical Test (first offense), Driving with Expired License or Without License (first offense) and Laned Roadway Violations.

LARCENY

Around 8:50 a.m., Nov. 3, Warwick Police responded to the NYLO Hotel, 400 Knight St., for a reported larceny. Police spoke to the victim who had parked his red Toyota Camry in the parking lot of the hotel the evening before, and returned to it around 7 a.m. to find it propped up on a rock and all four rims and tires missing.

“The lug nuts were left behind,” according to the incident report.

The vehicle was a rental car. The report was forwarded to the Warwick Police Detectives Division for follow-up.
