During 'pause' library continues to offer services

Warwick Public Library is writing another new chapter during this challenging year in the midst of the “Rhode Island On Pause” program. As the coronavirus pandemic continues to worsen, WPL is striving to maintain vital services during this ever-worsening crisis.

Jana Stevenson, the library’s director, says that WPL “continues to follow guidance provided by the City of Warwick, the Rhode Island Department of Health, and the Office of Library and Information Services. Our goal is to keep staff and patrons as safe as possible while still providing essential services to the community.”

During the pause, the central library at 600 Sandy Lane will offer limited services through December 13:

l Items on hold can be picked up without an appointment in the main lobby. If you prefer contactless pickup, you can arrange to have your items placed in the Idea Studio.

l Two computers, with access to black-and-white and color printers, will be available by reservation (time limit: 20 minutes).

l Fax and photocopy services will be available on a first-come/first-served basis.

l The Home Delivery program, available to Warwick residents who are homebound due to a short- or long-term illness or physical challenge, will continue service.

While access to the physical library is limited, a vast collection of resources and services is always available online. Patrons can download ebooks and audiobooks; borrow movies, music, ebooks and audiobooks via Hoopla; stream award-winning feature films and documentaries at Kanopy; and “turn the pages” of popular magazines at Flipster.

And WPL’s website offers an engaging slate of virtual programs and events, including storytimes; interviews with local artists, performers, and scholars on Rhody Radio; a December reading challenge; guided meditation sessions; and much more.

For reservations, requests, and other concerns, call WPL at 401-739-5440 or visit warwicklibrary.org.
