Arlene Elizabeth Gorton


Arlene Elizabeth Gorton, 88, of East Providence, formerly of Warwick, died on Friday, January 3, 2020.

Born in Pawtucket, she was the daughter of the late Kingdon D. and Eveline (Wright) Gorton. Arlene was a proud graduate of Pembroke College, now Brown University, where she received her master’s degree as a member of the Class of 1952. She went on to teach at Brown University and also served as the associate director of the Athletic Department until her retirement.

She is survived by her loving family, a nephew, Scott W. Gorton and his wife, Christine, of Barrington; a niece, Robin L. Favreau and her husband, David, of Carlsbad, California; a cousin, Jane M. Rice; and several grandnieces and grandnephews, Ben and Sarah Favreau and Jake and Zach Gorton. She was the loving sister of the late William F. Gorton and sister-in-law of the late Janice K. Gorton.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, January 12 from 1-3 p.m. at Urquhart-Murphy Funeral Home, 800 Greenwich Ave, Warwick. A memorial service will be held at a time to be announced. Interment will be private. For more information and guest book visit
