John, you are correct it is Wednesday at the Crowne Plaza and it is by invitational only.
It is paid for by the firefighters who are being promoted and they pay for their families.
You are also correct the union does pick up the difference for all of the other firefighters who show up.
This is part of why we pay union dues to pay for lawyers and also to recognize those who have been promoted.
Not one penny is from the taxpayers for this ceremony so don’t even go down that road.
