Ernest Joseph Genever Jr, 73, of Warwick, Rhode Island, passed away on January 2, 2024, in Providence under the loving care of Hope Hospice after a long illness. He was born on September 15, 1950, in Warwick, RI. Ernest, known as Ernie to his loved ones, was a devoted partner, father, and grandfather, and will be deeply missed. Ernie’s enthusiasm for reading, traveling, and attending car shows and museums was profound. He was passionate about trains and Rhode Island history. His curiosity and love for knowledge were evident in his extensive collection of books and his eagerness to explore new places. He loved music - rock and roll, blues, train songs, and union songs especially. He cherished his children and grandchildren and found much joy in spending time with them.

Ernie is survived by his beloved partner, Marjorie Lane, his daughter Maureen Genever-Volk, his son Daniel Neff, his stepdaughter Shana Neff, his granddaughters Katelyn Volk, Hannah Neff, and Wilhelmina Neff, and his grandsons Karl Volk and Ira Neff. He is also survived by his sisters Donna Paulin and Victoria Palmer. He was preceded in death by his mother Barbara Genever, his father Ernest Genever Sr., his brother Robert Genever, and his brother Christopher Genever.

Ernie served in the Coast Guard for 3 years, where he developed a strong sense of duty and dedication to his country. After his military service, he worked as a building maintenance mechanic for the post office, where he proudly supported the American Postal Workers Union for over 35 years.

A Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday, January 27th at 11:30am at St. Barnabas Church, located at 3257 Post Rd, Warwick, RI 02888. Ernie will be remembered for his love of learning, his devotion to his family, and his commitment to his country and community. He leaves behind a legacy of kindness, curiosity, and dedication that will continue to inspire those who knew him.
