The songs, dancing and drumbeats of Destiny Africa Children’s Choir enthralled Warwick Mall patrons Saturday. The group is on an extended tour from their home in Uganda to help raise funds and awareness of the Kampala Children’s Centre and its goal is to eventually house, educate and care for at least 1,000 orphans. Mary Lou Lamontagne of Warwick is tour manager and arranged for choir members to stay with community hosts while in Rhode Island. The choir held other performances in the state during its visit as well. All choir members are orphans, said Lamontagne. She said the Centre opened in 2005, and is now home to approximately 120 children. The Centre is a community of homes, a school, a farm, youth center, workshop and other resources where these children live, learn and thrive. “Their lives have been transformed and now these children sing a new song, one of hope, restoration, freedom and joy and they are bringing it on tour,” she said.
