Mr. Windmills & baseball caps: I have nothing to hide, and, am not afraid of using my real name. :)

Unfortunately, you're repeating a rumor. I share office space with Mr. Merolla, but, he is not my "landlord," and I don't pay rent to him. His firm and my firm each rent office space.

To answer your question, yes, I do make independent decisions on City matters. Since I founded my own firm and started renting space, there have been several high profile votes where the Council President and I voted different ways. These included votes on two different municipal contracts and two municipal court judges. If I recall correctly, 3/4 of those votes would have gone the other way if I were to have voted with the Council President.

Being a professional and holding office means not allowing friendships to affect voting, nor allowing voting to affect friendships.

It's easy to throw accusations. But, if you're interested in facts and not mud-slinging, you'd be welcome to give me a phone call.
