Well Warwick man, I have the photos.

The fire dept has gone from a $17 mil department to a $22+ mil department in 8 years. No overtime reductions have been realized at all. Even with 9 men over an above full staffing. Scal, maybe you think "tone" is the most important concept in this issue, but its not, its finances. Not sure if you have ever been to a budget hearing but for a decade or more we have had a complacent city council that has never asked for any numbers to be substantiated.

This also has nothing to do with job performance so you can all skew the conversation as much as you want. But the reality is that there are inherent scams and schemes that have been manipulating the system for years. The numbers dont lie. The department cannot continue to run in this fashion.

The claim that shift swapping costs nothing is ridiculous. Do some research, many departments across the country have been charged criminally for the same thing. With exorbitant benefits of sick time and vacation time and personal time, there should be no change of shift allowed. If you want to extend your vacation, then use your vacation time. If you run out of vacation time, you donet go on vacation. Get into the real world and understand the concept of preserving sick time and vacation time by change of shift and monetizing it in the future. Its a scam and that's why guys like Bill Lloyd and other members of the department dont want any changes.
