The work of Warwick artist Craig Masten is the subject of an exhibition in the Providence Art Club Dodge House Gallery titled Unlikely Favorites: A Solo Show. This show will run September 22 to October 11, with an opening reception on September 22 from 2 to 4 p.m. The exhibit and the reception are free and open to the public.

The exhibition will include paintings with a nautical theme focused on various types of ships throughout history. These works will be defined by the unique touch of the artist, who works in watercolor, oil, ink, and other media throughout his work.

Craig Masten is an award-winning Rhode Island artist who works in a variety of media. He has sketched and painted all his adult life, and in recent years devotes himself to art on a full time basis. He has studied under a variety of artists both locally and further afield including classes and workshops at the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, the DeCordova Museum School in Lincoln, Massachusetts, and the Providence Art Club. Masten is also one of the coordinators of the Club's popular figure drawing classes. In addition to the Art Club, he holds memberships in a variety of organizations including the Rhode Island Watercolor Society, Wickford Art Association, South County Art Association, and Connecticut Academy of Fine Arts.

Masten earned his BA at DePauw University, his MA at Boston University, and his MSW at Boston College. He relocated to Rhode Island in 2002 and resides in Warwick with his wife Gail Armstrong who is also an artist, arts educator, and a fellow member of the Providence Art Club. Gail and Craig share a studio together at the Club in our 18th century Deacon Taylor House studios. His website is www.craigmasten.com/AbouttheArtist.html
