William “Bill” Shalvey

William “Bill” Shalvey, 59, of Warwick, passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 12, after a long battle with Huntington’s Disease. He was the beloved husband of Lynne (Devine) Shalvey for 35 years.

A lifelong resident of Warwick, he was the son of the late Robert and Ellen (Clark) Shalvey. He was a graduate of Warwick Veterans Memorial High School. Bill was a longtime member of IBEW Local 99, where he was a Master Electrician. He had also served in the United States Air Force and worked as a Lineman Foreman for Amtrak. Bill was passionate about giving back to the community. He served as Chairman of the Local 99 Executive Board, wired homes for Habitat For Humanity, volunteered for Rebuilding Together and the West Bay Community Action’s marketplace. Bill was a lover of dogs who enjoyed spending time with his furry pals Sam and Jerry. He was also a Harley Davidson enthusiast who enjoyed road trips and kayaking with his friends.

Bill was the proud father of Caitlin Traversie (Dana) and Kelly Shalvey (Dan); loving Gramps to Owen and Hazel Traversie; and brother of Robert, Jr., Carol, Ellen Mary, John, Joseph, Stephen, and Maureen and the late Patricia. He leaves many nieces, nephews, and friends.

A Memorial Mass in his honor will be held at St. Kevin’s Church in Warwick on Saturday August 26th at 8:30 a.m.

In accordance with his final wishes, Bill’s body will be donated to Brown Medical School to aid in research and study of Huntington’s Disease. Donations in his name can be made to the Huntington’s Disease Society of America. http://rhodeisland.hdsa.org/.
