To the Editor:
A few weeks ago, Mayor Avedisian was asked by a TV reporter, “What was his main accomplishment as mayor?”
The mayor’s response was the reopening of Rocky Point.
As I choked on my soda in disbelief, I replayed the mayor’s response to be sure that I heard it correctly.
Rocky Point was the seventh wonder of the world to Rhode Islanders, and yet it took the mayor 15 years to get a small portion of the park finally reopened to the public. For those of us unable to walk into the park, it took another three years to open the gates to allow us to drive in and enjoy the park.
If this was the mayor’s main accomplishment, I wish us all well in his new position as head of RIPTA.
The City of Warwick must limit the term of its officials to four years.
