DUI

Shortly after 1:30 a.m. on March 10, Officer Stanley Hermanowski and Sgt. Christopher Fernandes responded to the Shop and Go at 636 West Shore Road for a report of a hit-and-run incident.

At the scene, police made contact with the female operator of a 2017 Subaru. The vehicle had “visible damage,” the officer reports, include a flat tire and damage to the front passenger-side fender. The woman told police that another vehicle had hit her car before heading down Rock Avenue.

Fernandes searched the area for the other vehicle and located a 2006 Buick Lacrosse with damage to its driver’s side. Witnesses told him they had been sleeping when they were awoken by the sound of a crash. They told the sergeant another vehicle, operated by a woman, had driven away from where the Buick was parked.

Hermanowski reports the operator of the Subaru acknowledged consuming alcohol that night, and that he observed her to have “bloodshot, watery eyes” and the odor of alcohol on her breath.

The woman is said to have agreed to undergo field sobriety testing, which she reportedly failed.

Jessica L. Herbert, 49, 69 Bowling Lane, Bradford, was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence and transported to Warwick Police headquarters for processing. While at headquarters, she is said to have refused a chemical breath test.

Herbert was later released into the custody of a sober adult with a summons to appear in Third Division District Court on a charge of driving with a suspended license. She was additionally cited for refusal to submit to a chemical test, leaving the lane of travel and leaving the scene of an accident resulting in damage to an unattended vehicle.

STOLEN VEHICLE

Shortly before 6 p.m. on March 14, Officer Justin Martin responded to the Stop & Shop on Quaker Lane for a report of a stolen motor vehicle.

At the scene, the reporting party told Martin he had arrived for work at the supermarket at approximately 2 p.m. that day. He parked his vehicle, a 1996 Buick Century, in the store’s lot. When he went outside during his break at approximately 5:30 p.m., he noticed the vehicle was missing. He told Martin he believed the vehicle had been locked and no keys had been left inside.

No security camera footage was immediately available. The vehicle was entered into police records as stolen, and the matter was documented and forwarded to detectives.

LARCENY

Just after 3:30 p.m. on March 7, Officer Thomas Paine responded to an Overton Road home for a report of larceny.

At the scene, the reporting party told Paine he had parked his 2015 Range Rover in the driveway at around 8 o’clock the previous night. The vehicle had been left unlocked. When he returned to the vehicle at around 8 o’clock the next morning, he discovered that a phone case – attached to the dashboard, with a value of approximately $30 – had been taken. Additionally, “the navigation screen in the center console was cracked and shattered.”

No security camera footage from the area was immediately available. The matter was documented and forwarded to detectives.

At approximately 8:30 a.m. on March 12, Officer Bruce Law responded to a Cowesett Road home for a report of a stolen leaf blower.

At the scene, the reporting party told Law he had been cleaning the street in front of his property that morning and left a Stihl brand backpack blower running on the roadside while he went to dump leaves approximately 50 years away. The reporting party said a black van then stopped near the blower, at which point a passenger got out, picked the blower up and loaded it into the van. The vehicle then left heading toward West Warwick.

The reporting party placed the value of the blower at $650. He described the van as a Ford Econoline, possibly from the 1990s. He was unable to provide the van’s registration or a description of its occupants, but he did have model and serial numbers for the blower.

The blower was entered into police records as stolen. The matter was documented and forwarded to detectives.

VANDALISM

At approximately 9:11 a.m. on March 7, Officer Maxwell Neiley responded to the Jamestown Apartments on Warwick Avenue for a report of vandalism to a vehicle.

At the scene, the reporting party showed Neiley “a large area of scratching as well as scuffing” on the hood of his 2015 Kia Sportage. The damage, which the officer described as “strictly cosmetic,” appeared to have resulted “from a person sliding across the hood, or someone dragging an item across the hood.”

The reporting party told Neiley he parked the vehicle at the apartment complex at approximately 5 p.m. the previous day. He first noticed the damage at around 10 o’clock that night while walking his dog.

No security camera footage was immediately available. The matter was documented.

SHOPLIFTING

Shortly after 1:30 p.m. on March 6, Officer Gregory Accinno responded to the Stop & Shop at 2470 Warwick Ave. for a report of shoplifting. Dispatch advised that a male suspect was in the custody of loss prevention personnel.

At the scene, a loss prevention officer told Accinno that the suspect had been observed selecting “meat and shrimp” and placing it inside his shopping carriage before exiting the store without making any attempt to pay. At that point, the man was met by store employees and escorted back inside. The combined value of the stolen items, which were recovered, was placed at nearly $687.

William Sequeira, 58, 70 Mawney St., Apt. 1, Providence, was arrested on a charge of shoplifting and transported to Warwick Police headquarters for processing. He was later released with a summons to appear in Third Division District Court.

Just before 2 p.m. on March 7, Officer Keara Enos responded to the Walmart at 650 Bald Hill Road for a report of a shoplifting incident in progress.

At the scene, loss prevention officers at the store told Enos they had identified a man who was “actively” shoplifting inside the store. They said the man had been observed using pliers to a open video game case before concealing the game cartridge under his sweatshirt.

Officers observed the man on security cameras before waiting outside in the event he exited the store without paying. Roughly five minutes later, the loss prevention officers informed police the man was exiting and had not paid for the concealed items. At that point, the man was met by employees and escorted back inside the store, where he was found to be in possession of multiple items – including a video game, a pack of energy drinks and body wash – with a combined value of roughly $65.

Michael Anthony Gianfrancesco, 39, 15 Haverford Road, Warwick, was arrested on a charge of shoplifting and transported to Warwick Police headquarters for processing. He was later released with a summons to appear in Third Division District Court.

WARRANTS

Shortly before 2 p.m. on March 13, Officer Keara Enos responded to Alltown Convenience at 1050 Bald Hill Road for a report of an erratic motor vehicle. Dispatch advised that a Nissan Altima was “all over the road.”

Enos observed a vehicle matching the description and made contact with the operator, who was found through a records check to be wanted on two active bench warrants issued from Superior Court.

Joshua M. Cooney Jr., 24, 100 Washington St., Apt. 57, West Warwick, was taken into custody on the warrants and transported to Warwick Police headquarters for processing. He was later transported to the Adult Correctional Institutions.
