Warwick North pulled out an impressive, 6-5, walk-off victory over Texas on Monday, before rolling past Puerto Rico on Tuesday afternoon, 12-3, to improve to 3-0 at the Junior League World Series in Kirkland, Washington.

It took Warwick North and Texas, the tournament’s Southwest representative, nine innings to decide their close matchup on Monday, but Dyonna Rodas ultimately decided the game with an RBI double in the bottom of the ninth that gave Warwick North a 6-5 victory.

Warwick North showed some resilience in the later innings after surrendering a 4-0 lead, with Sierra Ricci coming in out of the bullpen to toss 3 1/3 strong innings, yielding just one run to earn the win.

Leadoff hitter Maddy D’Amato paced Warwick North at the plate with a game-high three hits to go along with two RBIs. Olivia Murray and Emily Tow also had two hits apiece.

On Tuesday, Warwick North faced a 3-2 deficit against Puerto Rico through 3 1/2 innings, but the bats would wake up late for the hometown group, as it scored 10 runs over the final three innings en route to its third victory in as many days, 12-3.

D’Amato and No. 2 hitter Bryanna Rastella were catalysts at the top of the lineup against Puerto Rico, as D’Amato went 3-for-4 with four runs scored and Rastella did a bit of everything, going 3-for-5, driving in three runs and scoring three runs. Murray (3 RBIs), Rodas (2 RBIs) and Tow (3 hits) also helped Warwick North in its comeback effort.

Results from Warwick North’s game against the Netherlands (0-3) on Wednesday were unavailable at press time, but the victory over Puerto Rico on Tuesday secured Warwick North the top seed out of Pool B for the single-elimination round.

“Being the top seed definitely helps,” Warwick North manager Kevin DeTroia said. “The Southwest and Southeast are two good teams, and they should play each other (Thursday), so one of those teams will be knocked out, which helps us. If we keep playing the way we’ve been playing, then we’ll be fine. But, there’s no guarantee in single elimination. The top seed last year got knocked out early.”

Warwick North will take on the No. 4 seed out of Pool A at 4:45 p.m. (EST) today. If it wins today, Warwick North will play in the semifinals on Friday evening at 8 p.m. The championship game will be televised on ESPN2 on Saturday at 3 p.m.

“Now the battle begins starting (Thursday),” DeTroia said.
