STOLEN LAPTOP

On July 16 at approximately 4:34 p.m., Officer Charles Austin was dispatched to 80 Kilvert St. for a report of a larceny from a vehicle.

At the scene he spoke with the reporting party, who stated that he works at the Green Waste Water Solutions company. He said that a white pick up truck had been dropped off at approximately 3 p.m. The man said that when he left work at approximately 4:30 he realized the door to the truck was opened. He made a check of the vehicle and noticed that a laptop, identified as an HP laptop, was missing.

There are currently no suspects or witnesses, but the company would like to press charges if a suspect was found.

STOLEN MONEY

Officer Michael Walker responded to Smart Tan located at 1276 Bald Hill Road on July 13 at approximately 10:50 a.m. for a report of stolen money from a vehicle.

There he met with the victim, who advised that overnight her vehicle had been gone through while it was parked in front of her boyfriend’s house at Underwood Avenue. She states that she was almost positive that her vehicle had been locked, however when she went out to her vehicle at 8:30 a.m. and discovered that her purse and wallet inside the car were open.

She then discovered that all of the cash in her wallet, between $300 and $400, was missing. Nothing else seemed to have been taken from the car, and the vehicle appeared to be undamaged. There are currently no suspects, however the woman wishes to press charges if a suspect is found.

OBSTRUCTION

On July 23 around 4:38 p.m. Officer Ali Jaafar was making a right hand turn onto Jefferson Boulevard from Lincoln Avenue when he observed a driver pass him who was not wearing a seat belt. A traffic stop was then initiated in front of 10 Jefferson Boulevard.

Contact was made with the driver and passenger. They were both asked for identification, however the passenger did not have any identification on him. He identified himself as Tyler Russell with a date of birth of 11/16/94. He said that he was from New Jersey and was just coming back from work and did not have his ID. He also stated that he did not know his Social Security number.

Officer Jaafar then ran queries on the name and date of birth provided which produced no results. The passenger was then asked to step from the vehicle, and became confrontational. He was asked to contact anyone on his cell phone who knew him and then hand the phone to Officer Jaafar so that he could confirm his identity. He was asked to call his girlfriend and then his mother. While calling his girlfriend, he allegedly immediately stated to her, “Baby, they don’t believe my name is Tyler Russell.”

Officer Jaafar said that would be insufficient as he just told her his name. He was then asked to call his mother and to hand the officer his phone before saying anything. Russell continued to be confrontational, stating he would like a lawyer on scene and that his rights were violated and he was being discriminated against, according to the report. Russell then called one more number, supposedly his mother, who said the man’s name was Russell Tyler, rather than Tyler Russell. When asked for his date of birth she hung up.

Russell was placed into Officer Jaafar’s cruiser. The officer then questioned the driver, who stated that they were just coming back from Dean Warehouse and that he did not know the subject’s name as he was a new employee. He was then asked to call his supervisor. Upon speaking with the supervisor and giving him the name Tyler Russell, he said he did not know that name. He was then provided a description of the suspect, said that his name was not Tyler Russell and that he would call back with the correct name.

Upon seeing this interaction, the suspect then became cooperative and advised that his name was Lameen Spann, 23, of 423 Pine St. in Central Falls. He said he believed he had two outstanding warrants. A background check then confirmed that there were two warrants for his arrest. He was then transported to police headquarters where he was processed for the two warrants and charged with obstructing an officer in execution of duty. He was later transported to police headquarters.

POSSESSION

At approximately 8 p.m. on July 24, Officer Ali Jaafar was traveling north on Jefferson Boulevard when a vehicle passed him heading southbound that had illegal sunscreen material installed that prevented someone from seeing into the vehicle.

A traffic stop was initiated, and contact was made with Alvin Fernandez, 24, of 21 View Drive in Little Compton. While speaking with Fernandez, Officer Jaafar detected an “extremely strong” odor of air freshener, as if it had just been sprayed. An air freshener was in the center console, air fresheners were hanging inside the vehicle, and a box of new air fresheners was on the passenger seat.

In the center console, Officer Jaafar reported that he observed a rolled marijuana cigarette. Fernandez, when asked, said there was marijuana in the vehicle. Fernandez said he was coming from Pawtucket and that he was out for a drive. He later stated that he was on his way to pick up his girlfriend from Denny’s. Fernandez was then asked to move his car to Spooner Avenue where there was less traffic, and then asked to step from the vehicle. He then was asked to step from the vehicle and provided consent for the car to be searched.

A search of the vehicle resulted in the discovery of a plastic bag that appeared to contain crack cocaine as well as a small amount of marijuana. Fernandez was taken into custody and transported to police headquarters, where the substances were later tested and positively identified as drugs. He was charged with manufacturing/possession/delivering of a schedule I/II substance, driving in possession of a controlled substance, possession of less than one ounce of marijuana, unlawful installation of sunscreen material and no seat belt. He was then held to appear in court in the morning.

STOLEN WHEELS

On July 27 at approximately 8:32 a.m., Officer Britton Kelly was dispatched to the Fairfax Village Apartments for a report of a larceny of wheels from a vehicle.

At the scene the officer spoke with the victim, who stated that on July 26 at approximately 7 a.m. she had observed her Honda Accord with the wheels on it. When she awoke they were gone. The vehicle was held up by one rock on each side of the car, and detectives were called to process the vehicle. While there are currently no suspects, the report was forwarded to detectives for review.
