DRIVING UNDER THE INFLUENCE

At 9:09 p.m. on March 4, Officer Richard Odell was on routine patrol traveling in the rotary at the intersection of Toll Gate Road and Centerville Road. There he witnessed a Nissan Altima approach the rotary from Veterans Memorial Drive Extension that did not yield at the sign and failed to yield for the officer. Officer Odell followed the vehicle, which later failed to utilize turn signals, and conducted a traffic stop on Centerville Road.

According to the report, Officer Odell made contact with the driver, later identified as Elenore Ignacio, 40, of 281 Hope Furnace Road in Hope. Ignacio said that she was returning from a baby shower and had a few glasses of wine before leaving. Officer Odell noted the smell of alcohol coming from Ignacio’s breath as she spoke and observed signs of intoxication. Additional officers were called to the scene to assist, and Ignacio agreed to partake in a series of standardized sobriety tests.

Based upon the officer’s training and experience, it was determined that Ignacio was impaired and unfit to operate a motor vehicle safely. She was taken into custody, her vehicle was towed from the scene and she was transported to police headquarters. At the station, Ignacio refused to submit to a chemical breathalyzer test.

Ignacio was charged with driving under the influence, first offence, refusal to submit to a chemical test, failure to yield right of way at a rotary and turn signal required. She was later released to a sober adult.

STOLEN WALLET

On March 6 at approximately 10:12 p.m. Officer Brian Holleran met with a complainant at police department headquarters to take a report of a larceny. According to the victim, she and her boyfriend were shopping at the Quaker Lane Stop and Shop. While shopping, she placed her wallet in a shopping cart. When it came time for her to pay for her merchandise, the wallet was missing.

The woman attempted to search the areas of the store she visited to find the purse without success. Contained in the wallet was $1,300, a driver’s license, cosmetology license, Medicare card and checkbook. A report was taken, and there are currently no suspects.

SHOPLIFTING

On March 6 around 11:23 p.m., Officer Charles Austin was dispatched to the Bald Hill Road Walmart for a report of a shoplifting in progress. Dispatch advised that a suspect had walked out of the store with a television and had fled in a white vehicle. A check of the area by officers was negative for the suspect’s car.

At the store the officer spoke with a manager, who stated that he witnessed a white male go to the electronics department an select a 43 inch Visio television, valued at $248, before exiting the store without paying. An attempt to stop the man outside was unsuccessful. A written statement was taken, currently there are no suspects.

STOLEN BATTERIES

Officer Rose Michel was dispatched to Bjorklund Construction on Electronic Drive on March 6 at approximately 10:11 a.m. At the scene he met with the reporting party, who stated that two dump trucks that were parked in the company lot were missing their batteries, which were valued at approximately $150 each. There are currently no suspects or witnesses, and the case was forwarded to detectives for review.

STOLEN TIRES

On March 6 at approximately 10:40 a.m., Officer Rose Michel was dispatched to the Post Road Target for a report of stolen wheels.

At the scene the officer met with the parking manager, who showed the officer the vehicle parked in the rear of the lot. All four tires and wheels of the Hyundai Tucson were missing and the vehicle sat on rocks. The front passenger side window was also broken and the glove compartment was open. Thirteen lug nuts were located on the ground near the vehicle. A written statement from the vehicle’s owner was taken and the report was forwarded to detectives for review.
