LARCENY

Just after 3:30 p.m. on March 7, Officer Thomas Paine responded to an Overton Road home for a report of larceny.

At the scene, the reporting party told Paine he had parked his 2015 Range Rover in the driveway at around 8 o’clock the previous night. The vehicle had been left unlocked. When he returned to the vehicle at around 8 o’clock the next morning, he discovered that a phone case – attached to the dashboard, with a value of approximately $30 – had been taken. Additionally, “the navigation screen in the center console was cracked and shattered.”

No security camera footage from the area was immediately available. The matter was documented and forwarded to detectives.

Shortly after 10 a.m. on March 12, Officer Brian Holleran responded to an Ottawa Avenue home for a report of a stolen bicycle.

At the scene, the reporting party told Holleran that she was cleaning her yard that morning when she noticed her 21-speed Mongoose Excursion mountain bike, with 24-inch wheels, was missing from the side of her shed. The bicycle had last been seen on March 9. The reporting party checked with families members to ensure the bicycle had not been borrowed without her permission.

The bicycle was not located during a subsequent canvass of the neighborhood. Holleran also checked with detectives to see if the bicycle was in the department’s inventory of found bicycles, but it was not.

The matter was documented.

SHOPLIFTING

Just before 2 p.m. on March 7, Officer Keara Enos responded to the Walmart at 650 Bald Hill Road for a report of a shoplifting incident in progress.

At the scene, loss prevention officers at the store told Enos they had identified a man who was “actively” shoplifting inside the store. They said the man had been observed using pliers to a open video game case before concealing the game cartridge under his sweatshirt.

Officers observed the man on security cameras before waiting outside in the event he exited the store without paying. Roughly five minutes later, the loss prevention officers informed police the man was exiting and had not paid for the concealed items. At that point, the man was met by employees and escorted back inside the store, where he was found to be in possession of multiple items – including a video game, a pack of energy drinks and body wash – with a combined value of roughly $65.

Michael Anthony Gianfrancesco, 39, 15 Haverford Road, Warwick, was arrested on a charge of shoplifting and transported to Warwick Police headquarters for processing. He was later released with a summons to appear in Third Division District Court.

VANDALISM

Shortly before 11 a.m. on March 18, Officer Robert Canis-Langlais responded to the Royal Crest Apartments on Cedar Pond Drive for a report of vandalism.

At the scene, the reporting party told Canis-Langlais that she was woken by a loud noise in the parking lot at around 2 o’clock that morning. Looking out the window, she observed two men next to her car – a 1999 Plymouth – and another vehicle parked nearby. The men then left the area.

Later, when the reporting party went to her car to head to work, she discovered the passenger window had been smashed and the glove department was empty. The vehicle’s registration and insurance paperwork was missing, although nothing else of value had been taken.

Canis-Langlais observed the damage to the vehicle, as well as a “large boulder” sitting on the ground next to the front wheel.

There were no other witnesses and no suspects were immediately identified. The matter was documented.

SUSPICIOUS ACTIVITY

Shortly before 10 p.m. on March 15, officers Brenen Cardoza and Ryan Shibley responded to a Coburn Street home for a report of suspicious activity. Dispatch advised that a resident of the home heard his car alarm go off before seeing someone run away from his property toward Sea View Drive.

Cardoza reports that the officers did not observe anyone fleeing the area as they arrived. They then made contact with the reporting party, who was unable to provide any description of the person he saw running away from his Jaguar XT. The reporting party also said nothing was missing from his vehicle.

The matter was documented. Cardoza requested that dispatch add information about the incident to the department’s roll call so other officers would be on the alert for attempted vehicle break-ins in the area.

NO LICENSE

Just after 10:30 a.m. on March 14, Officer Evan Johnson was conducting a stationary patrol and monitoring traffic on East Avenue when he observed a 2006 Chrysler Pacifica without a front license plate heading eastbound. A check of the vehicle’s rear plate found it was both suspended and associated with a 2001 Chevrolet.

Johnson stopped the Pacifica near the intersection of Greenwich and Rome avenues and made contact with the operator, who was unable to provide insurance information or a current registration document. A subsequent records check found the operator had no driver’s license, and he also had multiple previous convictions for driving without or operating with a suspended license.

Tyree P. Andrews, 28, 72 Tiogue Ave., West Warwick, was arrested on a charge of driving without/expired license, third or subsequent offense, and transported to Warwick Police headquarters for processing. He was later released with a summons to appear in Third Division District Court. He was also cited for operating an unregistered vehicle.

WARRANTS

Shortly before 2 p.m. on March 13, Officer Keara Enos responded to Alltown Convenience at 1050 Bald Hill Road for a report of an erratic motor vehicle. Dispatch advised that a Nissan Altima was “all over the road.”

Enos observed a vehicle matching the description and made contact with the operator, who was found through a records check to be wanted on two active bench warrants issued from Superior Court.

Joshua M. Cooney Jr., 24, 100 Washington St., Apt. 57, West Warwick, was taken into custody on the warrants and transported to Warwick Police headquarters for processing. He was later transported to the Adult Correctional Institutions.

Shortly before 2 p.m. on March 19, Officer David Boardman was conducting a routine patrol in the area of the Motel 6 on Jefferson Boulevard when he observed a 2008 Jeep Patriot with no front license plate and a used dealer plate affixed to its rear bumper.

The vehicle pulled into the Motel 6, at which point Boardman initiated a stop and made contact with the operator. A records check found the operator’s license was expired, and he was wanted on an active bench warrant issued from Superior Court.

Mason Andrew Deangelus, 33, 70 Harbour Ave., West Warwick, was taken into custody on the warrant and transported to Warwick Police headquarters for processing. He was later transported to the Adult Correctional Institutions. He was additionally cited for driving with a suspended license.
