Warwick Police Logs 09-10-2020

DUI

Just after 2 a.m. on Aug. 27, Officer Zachary Black was traveling north on Post Road near its intersection with Main Avenue when he observed a 2019 Toyota Camry straddling lanes.

Black initiated a motor vehicle stop on Main Avenue and made contact with the operator, who is said to have acknowledged consuming alcohol earlier that night. The operator is said to have agreed to undergo field sobriety testing, which he reportedly failed.

Oscar E. Rivera, 42, 79 Barstow St., Apt. 1, Providence, was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence and transported to Warwick Police headquarters for processing. While at headquarters, he is said to have refused a chemical breath test.

Rivera was later released into the custody of a sober adult with a summons to appear in Third Division District Court on a charge of driving under the influence. He was additionally cited for refusal to submit to a chemical test and a laned roadway violation.

Just before 8:30 p.m. on Aug. 30, Officer Christopher Gillis and other officers responded to Interstate 95 south in the area of the East Avenue overpass for a report of an erratic operator. Dispatch advised the reporting party was following the suspect vehicle, a white Nissan Rogue with Massachusetts registration.

Gillis observed the vehicle on I-95 south near exit 12A and initiated a motor vehicle stop. He observed was appeared to be fresh damage to the vehicle’s front end.

Gillis made contact with the male operator and detected the odor of an alcoholic beverage on the man’s breath. The operator is said to have agreed to undergo field sobriety testing, which he reportedly failed.

Hasaan B. Beazer, 32, Randolph, Massachusetts, was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence and transported to Warwick Police headquarters for processing. While at headquarters, he is said to have refused a chemical breath test.

Beazer was later released into the custody of a sober adult with a summons to appear in Third Division District Court on a charge of driving under the influence. He was additionally cited for refusal to submit to a chemical test and duty to stop for an accident resulting in damage to highway fixtures.

SHOPLIFTING

At approximately 3 p.m. on Aug. 24, Officer Stanley Hermanowski responded to the Walmart at 840 Post Road for a report of shoplifting.

At the scene, a loss prevention employee at the store told Hermanowski she had been conducting routine surveillance when she observed a woman behaving suspiciously in the shoe department. The employee observed the woman select shoes, a scale, hand sanitizer and baby merchandise before proceeding to the self check-out line at the front of the store.

The woman is said to have scanned some, but not all, of the merchandise before exiting the store. At that point, she was met by loss prevention and escorted back inside. The stolen merchandise, which was recovered, had a combined value of nearly $240.

Sheryl Lynne Giorgi, 39, 99 Killey Ave., Warwick, was arrested on a charge of shoplifting and transported to Warwick Police headquarters for processing. She was also found to be wanted on a bench warrant issued from Third Division District Court, and she was later transported to the Adult Correctional Institutions.

VANDALISM

At approximately 6:30 a.m. on Aug. 29, Officer Oliver Pinheiro responded to a Shawomet Avenue home for a report of vandalism to a mailbox.

At the scene, the reporting party told Pinheiro his black metal mailbox, valued at approximately $200, had been destroyed. The damage had been discovered at 6 o’clock that morning. Pinheiro observed the top portion of the mailbox was in pieces on the ground, while its post was still standing.

No security camera footage was immediately available. The matter was documented.

Just after 12:34 p.m. on Aug. 29, Officer Anthony D’Abrosca responded to the Old Navy store at the Warwick Mall for a report of malicious damage.

At the scene, D’Abrosca spoke with the reporting party by phone. The woman said she was working at the store between 9:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m., and when she went to her vehicle on a break, she discovered the vehicle had been entered and rummaged through. No items were missing, the woman said, but the vehicle’s locking mechanism had been broken.

The matter was documented.

LARCENY

Just before 4:30 p.m. on Sept. 1, Officer Ryan Shibley responded to an Andrew Comstock Road home for a report of larceny.

At the scene, the reporting party told Shibley that the previous week, he discovered that his L.L. Bean canoe, valued at $700, was missing from a spot on the water at the end of Buttonwoods Avenue. The man said he had tied the canoe to a tree at the location and had last seen the vessel in early August.

The matter was documented.

SUSPENDED LICENSE

Just before 6 p.m. on Aug. 26, Officer Matthew Caradimos was conducting a traffic enforcement detail on Church Avenue when he observed a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed.

Caradimos clocked the vehicle at 48 mph in a 30 mph zone and initiated a stop. He made contact with the operator, who is said to have acknowledged having a suspended license. A records check confirmed his license was suspended and revealed he had at least two previous convictions for driving with a suspended license.

Jeffrey M. McKay Jr., 24, 90 Crystal Drive, Warwick, was arrested on a charge of driving with a suspended license, third or subsequent offense. He was later released with a summons to appear in Third Division District Court.

Just before 4:30 p.m. on Aug. 30, Officer Ryan Shibley observed a 2009 Honda Accord traveling north on Warwick Avenue near its intersection with Squantum Drive. The vehicle did not use a signal as it turned right onto Squantum Drive and then onto Pocahontas Drive. A records check revealed the vehicle’s registration plate was expired.

Shibley initiated a motor vehicle stop on Algonquin Drive and made contact with the operator, who was found through a records check to have a suspended license and multiple previous convictions for driving with a suspended license.

Ryan A. Hogan, 41, 271 Mount Pleasant Ave., Providence, was arrested on a charge of driving with a suspended license, third or subsequent offense, and transported to Warwick Police headquarters for processing. At one point, he was transported to East Greenwich Police headquarters for fingerprinting due to a malfunction with Warwick’s fingerprint scanner.

Hogan was later released with a summons to appear in Third Division District Court. He was additionally cited for operating a vehicle with expired registration, driving without insurance and method of giving turn signal.

Just after 10:30 p.m. on Sept. 1, Sgt. Geoffrey Waldman was traveling south on Bald Hill Road approaching the Toll Gate Road intersection when he observed a green SUV drift between lanes at it negotiated a turn from Toll Gate Road onto Bald Hill Road at a high rate of speed.

Waldman pursued the vehicle, initiated a motor vehicle an initiated a stop and made contact with the female operator. A records check revealed the operator’s license was suspended and she had multiple prior convictions for driving without a license.

Danielle M. Dejesus, 26, 953 Main St., Apt. B, West Warwick, was arrested on a charge of driving with a suspended license, third or subsequent offense, and transported to Warwick Police headquarters for processing. She was later released with a summons to appear in Third Division District Court. She was additionally cited for operating a vehicle with canceled registration and a laned roadway violation.
