VANDALISM

At approximately 9:10 p.m. on May 23, Officer Maxwell A. Neiley responded to Vanda Restaurant at 1 Centerville Road for a report of malicious damage to a motor vehicle.

At the scene, the reporting party indicated he had arrived to eat at the restaurant at approximately 7 p.m. that evening and parked his 2018 Chevrolet Silverado in the establishment’s parking lot. When he returned to the vehicle at approximately 9 p.m., he found a large crack in its windshield.

While talking with the owner of the first vehicle, a second person reported damage to their vehicle at the restaurant. The second reporting party indicated she had parked her 2018 Volkswagen Passat at approximately 6:50 p.m. and found “significant damage” to its windshield when she returned shortly after 9 p.m.

The owner of the restaurant told Neiley that at approximately 7 p.m. that night, he observed a man walking south on Greenwich Avenue and carrying a metal or wooden object similar to a pitchfork. The owner told the officer that he “saw the unidentified male swinging the pipe-like object around in a swinging fashion and also observed the male hit several traffic signs in the Apponaug rotary nearest his restaurant.”

Neither vehicle’s owner wished to press charges, but both asked that the incident be documented.

SHOPLIFTING

Shortly before 8 p.m. on June 1, Officer Justin N. Martin responded to the JCPenney location at Warwick Mall for a report of a shoplifting incident in progress. While en route to the scene, Martin was advised by dispatch that the suspect had returned to the store and was in the loss prevention office.

A loss prevention officer at the store told Martin that shortly after 7:30 p.m., she observed a woman select items from the Sephora and men’s departments before entering the women’s restroom. The woman then left the store, passing all points of purchase. A check of the women’s restroom uncovered several tags but no merchandise.

Loss prevention personnel made contact with the woman outside the store, and after several minutes she came back inside. Loss prevention recovered $126 worth of merchandise.

Ashley A. Murphy, 31, Fall River, Massachusetts, was arrested on a charge of shoplifting and transported to Warwick Police headquarters for processing. She was held pending an appearance before a bail commissioner.

***

On the evening of June 3, Officer Brian J. Holleran responded to the Macy’s location at Warwick Mall for a report of a shoplifting suspect in the custody of mall security.

At the scene, a Macy’s asset protection officer told Holleran that a woman had been observed selecting a number of items and entering a fitting room. Upon exiting the room, the woman was seen with a pair of pants and a sweater. She then exited the store, passing all points of purchase.

Asset protection personnel made contact with the woman outside the store, and mall security responded to escort the woman to the asset protection office. The recovered merchandise had a total value of $99.49.

Diane A. Niles, 55, 205 Sission St., Pawtucket, was arrested on a charge of shoplifting and transported to Warwick Police headquarters for processing.

WARRANT

Shortly after 4:36 p.m. on May 30, Officer Justin M. Martin was on patrol in the area of Bald Hill Road and East Avenue when he observed a 2003 Acura MDX with a display of plates violation. A subsequent records check found that the vehicle’s owner was wanted on a bench warrant.

A motor vehicle stop was initiated, and Martin confirmed both the operator’s identity and the active status of the warrant.

Ana M. Villot, 34, 610 Killingly St., Apt. 2, Johnston, was taken into custody on the warrant and transported to Warwick Police headquarters for processing. She was later transported to the Adult Correctional Institutions.
