SHOPLIFTING

On May 23 at 4:18 p.m., Officer Kyle Fitzsimmons responded to the JCPenney location at Warwick Mall for a report of a shoplifting incident in progress. Dispatch advised that according to a witness, the woman involved in the incident had fled the scene in a red Chevy vehicle with Rhode Island registration.

Officer Justin M. Martin began searching for the vehicle in the area of Jefferson Boulevard. He observed a vehicle matching the description near Lincoln Avenue and initiated a motor vehicle stop.

The vehicle’s passenger matched the description of the suspect, and the operator indicated they had just left JCPenney after paying a credit card bill. A bag containing clothing items with JCPenney hangers and price tags affixed was located in the vehicle, and a loss prevention associate from the store who responded to scene is said to have positively identified the suspect.

Deelena S. Watkins, 47, 68 Lincoln St., Woonsocket, was arrested on charges of shoplifting and shoplifting as a habitual offender. She was transported to Warwick Police headquarters for processing and held pending an appearance before a bail commissioner.

LARCENY

At approximately 8:30 a.m. on May 25, Officer Gerard J. Ditomasso responded to a Holmes Road home for a report of an attempted larceny.

At the scene, the reporting party indicated that when she got into her vehicle that morning, she noticed the contents of the glove box had been emptied onto the passenger seat. She said she had forgotten to lock the vehicle the previous night, and that no items were missing. The incident was documented at the reporting party’s request.

At approximately 8:30 a.m. on May 29, Officer John D. Madden responded to a Balcom Avenue home for a report of a larceny. At the scene, the reporting party indicated that at some point within the previous month, a large, aluminum ladder with orange siding had been stolen from her yard. The ladder’s value was estimated at more than $100. A cast iron radiator and several oil containers had also been taken from a shed at the property, according to the reporting party. No suspects were immediately identified.

VANDALISM

On May 23 at 11:30 p.m., Officer Alfred J. Silveira responded to the UPS location at 150 Plan Way for a report of malicious damage.

At the scene, the reporting party indicated he had parked his vehicle in the rear of the building at approximately 3 p.m. that afternoon. When he got off work at 10:15 p.m., he found the vehicle’s rear driver’s side window had been smashed and the glove compartment was open. No items were missing, according to the reporting party.

Surveillance footage was not immediately available. The matter was forwarded to detectives.

On the afternoon of May 25, Officer Normand G. Guilbert responded to a Quaker Lane apartment building for a report of vandalism to a vehicle.

At the scene, the reporting party indicated that the vehicle’s driver’s side window had been smashed. The reporting party said he had parked his vehicle in an assigned spot at approximately 12 p.m. The damage was noticed at approximately 4 p.m.

Nothing was stolen from the vehicle. There were no witnesses and no suspects were immediately identified. The matter was forwarded to detectives.
