SHOPLIFTING

Shortly before 2:30 p.m. on March 21, Officer Britton E. Kelly responded to Colleen Haxton’s Liquors at 1325 Post Road for a report of shoplifting.

At the scene, a manager at the business told the officer that approximately 20 minutes earlier, a man had entered the store, selected a bottle of Relax Riesling wine, placed it in the waistband of his pants and exited without making any attempt to pay. The manager said he was able to obtain the number of the Rhode Island license plate on the blue SUV in which the man left the scene.

Kelly reports that surveillance footage from the store showed the events described by the manager. The man was identified based on the license plate number and footage, and an arrest warrant was issued on a charge of shoplifting.

Just after 10 a.m. on March 28, Officer Gregory C. Accinno and another officer responded to Scituate Police Department headquarters to pick up the subject of the warrant.

Michael R. Pinto, 25, 15½ Boswell Trail, Foster, was taken into custody and transported to Warwick Police headquarters, where he was processed and issued a summons to appear in Third Division District Court.

At approximately 8:40 p.m. on March 26, Officer Matthew T. Caradimos responded to a report of a shoplifter in custody at the Macy’s location at Warwick Mall.

At the scene, an asset protection officer at the store told Caradimos the man she had in custody spoke only Russian. The associate said she had observed the man select a navy jacket and place it under his own jacket before taking a set of car keys from the woman and exiting the store without making any attempt to pay.

The man is said to have put the jacket into the trunk of a vehicle and re-entered Macy’s, where he met up with the woman from whom he had taken the keys. The associate said the man selected additional items from the Polo and children’s sections before separating from the woman and again exiting the store without making any attempt to pay. At that point, the associate made contact with and detained the man. The associate told police that eight items with a combined value of more than $646 were recovered.

Caradimos reports that two other officers made contact with the woman who was seen with the man, and she provided consent to remove the jacket from her vehicle’s trunk. She is said to have told the officers that the man is visiting from Russia on a visa and lives with her, but does not speak English.

Caradimos reported attempted to communicate with the man but was largely unsuccessful.

Avtandil Zhvania, 47, 1143 Hartford Ave., Apt. 3A, Johnston, was arrested on a charge of shoplifting and transported to Warwick Police headquarters, where he was held pending a morning court appearance. Police say the Russian consulate was contacted and notified.

LARCENY

On March 10, Detective Matthew T. Smith responded to Launch Trampoline Park at 920 Bald Hill Road regarding a larceny investigation.

An employee at the business told Smith her cell phone had been stolen the previous night and showed the detective surveillance footage showing the person she believed to the culprit. Smith reports the footage showed a man walk behind the employee desk and place an object into his pocket before leaving the business.

Smith reports that using social media and waivers filled out by visitors to the business, she had identified the person she believed to be responsible for the theft of her phone. The detective made contact with the man’s wife, who told police her husband had taken the phone because he believed it belonged to one of their children.

Smith and another detective responded to the Lincoln home of the man and his wife to retrieve the phone. Upon returning it to the Launch Trampoline Park employee, it was found that the SIM card had been removed. Based on that fact and the contents of the surveillance footage, the employee indicated she wished to pursue a criminal complaint.

A warrant was issued for the man’s arrest on a charge of larceny under $1,500.

On March 28 at approximately 3:30 p.m., Officer Ryan E. Shibley and Officer Anthony J. D’Abrosca responded to the Cumberland Police Department’s headquarters to pick up the suspect sought on the warrant. Pedro L. Colon, 48, 138 Lonsdale Main St., Lincoln, was taken into custody and transported to Warwick Police headquarters for processing. He was held overnight as a probation violator pending a morning court appearance.

VANDALISM

Just before noon on March 28, Officer Jeremy T. Smith and other officers responded to the area of 900 Centerville Road following a report of a disturbance. Dispatch reported that a man was yelling at passing motorists and had kicked a gray Honda Accord, causing damage to the vehicle.

Officers at the scene made contact with the man while Smith spoke with the owner of the Honda Accord in a nearby parking lot. The vehicle’s owner identified the man, who he said had shouted at his vehicle before kicking its front driver’s-side door, leaving a large dent. The vehicle’s owner said he wished to press charges.

Smith reports a witness also identified the man and confirmed the events described by the vehicle’s owner.

Rasheed Underwood, 31, 401 Pawtucket Ave., Pawtucket, was arrested on a charge of vandalism/malicious injury to property. He was additionally taken into custody on a bench warrant issued from Sixth Division District Court.

Underwood was transported to Warwick Police headquarters for processing and then taken to Third Division District Court without incident.

WARRANT

Just before 12:30 p.m. on March 26, Officer William R. Holz was on a speed enforcement detail on the Post Road Extension when he observed a vehicle with Massachusetts registration traveling nearly 20 mph over the posted speed limit of 35 mph.

Holz initiated a motor vehicle stop and made contact with the operator. A subsequent records check revealed the operator was wanted on a warrant issued from Providence Police.

James A. Favoni, 41, 51 Chestnut St. East Douglas, Massachusetts, was taken into custody and transported to Warwick Police headquarters. He was additionally issued a warning for speeding.
