ATTEMPTED LARCENY

On March 15 at approximately 9:35 a.m., Officer Julio C. Benros responded to Doyle Sails on Division Street for a report of an attempted larceny of a motor vehicle.

At the scene, the business’ owner told Benros that someone attempted to steal the company’s white 2002 Ford E-150 between 7 p.m. on March 14 and 7 a.m. on March 15. He said an employee found a window on the vehicle was down and the driver’s seat had been moved back and reclined. Tools that do not belong to the business were found on a seat in the vehicle.

“I noticed damaged to the ignition consistent with the vehicle having been tampered with in an attempt to steal the vehicle,” Benros wrote in his report. “The handle to the turn signal was also broken.”

The owner indicated he wishes to press charges is a suspect is identified. No surveillance video was available and there were no witnesses.

On March 19 at approximately 1:14 a.m., Officer David G. Waddington was responded to a service call on Commodore Avenue when he observed a white Ford F150 parked at the Alpine Auto Wash on Warwick Avenue.

The vehicle was parked next to the money collection machine, and one of the soda vending machines at the location was leaning against the rear tailgate of the truck. A man was standing in the bed of the truck on the driver’s side, according to Waddington.

The officer made contact with the man, who is said to have attempted to pull the vending machine off his truck’s tailgate and place it back next to another vending machine as the officer pulled in. The man is said to have told the officer he was attempting to take the vending machine for scrap.

Waddington then made contact with the owner of the business, who said the vending machines were working and undamaged the last time he saw them.

Robert R. Negrotti II, 50, 11 Bettez St., Apt. 1, West Warwick, was arrested and charged with attempted larceny, under $1,500. He was issued a summons to appear in Third Division District Court.

SHOPLIFTING

Just after 5 p.m. on Feb. 20, Officer Kevin P. Warren responded to the Work ‘N Gear location on Bald Hill Road for a report of a shoplifting incident.

At the scene, the store’s assistant manager told Warren that less than an hour earlier, two people – an approximately 40-year-old man standing roughly 6 feet tall, and a woman of the same approximate age standing roughly 5 feet, 2 inches tall – entered the store and walked to the boot section. They selected a pair of Timberland boots, which the man put on. They then exited the store without making any attempt to pay.

The assistant manager told Warren she saw the man and woman enter a light-colored Ford Fusion with Massachusetts registration plates.

The boots were valued at $145, and Work ‘N Gear indicated it wishes to press charges if the suspects are identified.
