ASSAULT

A man from New Orleans, Lousiana, is facing multiple charges after an incident March 16 at Kent Hospital.

According to a statement from Warwick Police Lt. Scott Robillard, 41-year-old Dennis Walsh is charged with felony assault, malicious damage and disorderly conduct. Court records indicate he was held on $20,000 bond with surety and issued a no-contact order at his arraignment.

Robillard’s statement indicates police responded to the hospital at approximately 12:55 a.m. following a report from security that two men were involved in a fight in the emergency room. The two men had been involved in an altercation in West Warwick, the statement reads, and the victim had been transported to the hospital for medical treatment.

Walsh is alleged to have gone to the hospital, struck the victim with a tire iron that had been concealed in his pants and damaged a wall in the emergency room.

SHOPLIFTING

Officer Anthony J. D’Abrosca reports responding to the JCPenney location at the Warwick Mall, 400 Bald Hill Road, at approximately 3:30 p.m. on March 5 for a report of a shoplifting incident in progress.

Dispatch advised that a male suspect ran from the store with concealed merchandise and entered a Honda Accord with Rhode Island registration. Another officer had located stopped the vehicle.

At JCPenney, a loss prevention officer told D’Abrosca that the suspect had selected a pair of gray Nike pants, a Boston Celtics sweatshirt and a T-shirt with a total value of $192. The suspect is said to have tolled up the items and concealed them inside his winter jacket before exiting the store without making any attempt to pay.

JCPenney indicated it wished to press charges, and the loss prevention officer identified the man from the traffic stop as the suspect.

Chavez Vincent Champagne, 37, of 2030 Elmwood Ave., Warwick, is charged with shoplifting. *** Officer Bruce D. Law and other officers responded to the Kohl’s department store on Bald Hill Road at approximately 3:38 p.m. on March 9 following a report of a shoplifting in progress.

The reporting party, a loss prevention associate at the store, told dispatchers that three people – two men and a woman – were concealing electronics and clothing items in a cardboard box inside a shopping cart. Law waited outside the store’s entrance and was informed by the loss prevention associate when the suspects were exiting.

Law observed a woman exit the store with a shopping cart that contained a large cardboard box. He approached the woman and reportedly observed clothing and electronics in the box, which was labeled as containing a pet ladder.

The items were identified as those loss prevention observed being taken, and she was taken into custody. The two male suspects then exited the store and were identified as having been involved in the theft of the items. They were also taken into custody. The stolen merchandise is said to have had a total value of nearly $1,500.

Alisha Leonard, 30, of 1870 West Shore Road, Warwick, is charged with shoplifting and conspiracy. Richard Warren Irvin, 28, of 28 Chittic Road, Hyde Park, Massachusetts, is charged with conspiracy and unlawful use/removal of a theft protection device. Tristan Irvin, 25, of 5 Judoin St., West Warwick, is charged with shoplifting and conspiracy. All three were issued no-trespass orders for Kohl’s.

LARCENY

Officer Jeffrey B. Taranto reports responding to the Crown Plaza on Greenwich Avenue at approximately 9:37 a.m. on March 12 for a report of four tires and rims being stolen from a vehicle.

At the scene, the owner of the vehicle – a 2018 Acura MDX with New Jersey registration – indicated he had parked at the hotel and gone to his room at approximately 10 p.m. on March 11. He was altered of the theft by hotel staff just before 9 a.m. the next morning. He estimated the total value of the tires and rims to be $3,000, and indicated he wished to press charges if a suspect is identified.

No surveillance video was available for the area of the parking lot in which the vehicle was parked, according to Taranto. Hotel staff reported observing no suspicious activity overnight.

DUI

Officer Alfred J. Silveira reports concluding a motor vehicle stop on Route 95 near exits 14 and 15 at approximately 1:23 a.m. on March 11 when he observed a silver Honda with Rhode Island registration fail to move over despite the left lanes being empty.

Silveira pursued the Honda and initiated another traffic stop. According to the officer, the operator presented a South Carolina driver’s license and indicated he was unfamiliar with the state’s law requiring drivers to move over or slow down if coming up on an emergency vehicle in the breakdown lane.

Silveira reports he detected a “strong odor of an alcoholic beverage” as the operator spoke. He also reports the driver’s eyes were “severely bloodshot and watery.” The operator is said to have acknowledged consuming alcohol and smoking marijuana that night.

The operator is said to have agreed to undergo field sobriety testing, which he reportedly failed. A preliminary breath test administered at the scene is said to have found the operator’s blood alcohol content to be significantly above the legal limit.

Cristian Antonio Pinol, 23, of 189 Harold St., Providence, was taken into custody for suspicion of driving under the influence and transported to police headquarters, where he is said to have refused a chemical breath test.

Pinol was issued a summons to appear in Third Division District Court on a charge of driving under the influence. He was additionally cited for refusal to submit to a chemical test and conditions requiring reduced speed involving an emergency vehicle.
