Police Log - 01/22-19

LARCENY

Officer Timothy W. Lipka reports meeting with a woman at police headquarters at approximately 12:24 p.m. Jan. 13 regarding her vehicles being broken into.

The woman told the officer that sometime between the night of Jan. 12 and the morning of Jan. 13, approximately $10 in coins and bills was taken from her vehicles, which were accidentally left unlocked.

No surveillance video was available. The woman told Lipka she wished to press charges if a suspect were identified.

Officer Brian M. Murray reports meeting with a woman in the lobby of police headquarters at approximately 1:17 p.m. Jan. 16 regarding a larceny from her vehicle.

The woman told the officer that sometime during the previous night, multiple items were taken from her vehicle at the Jamestown Apartments on Warwick Avenue. The missing items included a work apron and wallet, which contained multiple bank and credit cards, a Social Security card, a driver’s license and more than $150 in cash.

The woman said $85 in cash had been taken from her vehicle a few nights prior as well. The vehicle had been left unlocked on both occasions, she said. She was advised to cancel her credit cards.

Officer Matthew J. Caradimos reports responding to the parking lot of LA Fitness, 1500 Bald Hill Road, at approximately 8:08 p.m. Jan. 16 for a report of larceny from a motor vehicle.

At the scene, the reporting party and victim showed the officer that the front passenger side window of her vehicle had been shattered. Her purse had been left in the vehicle and was now missing, she said. It contained a black leather wallet, which contained her driver’s license and several credit cards.

The reporting party also told police she had received a notification from Capitol One that a charge for $622.32 had been attempted, and declined, at the Walmart Super Center in North Kingstown.

LA Fitness staff told the officer there were no surveillance cameras in the area. The victim indicated she wished to press charges if a suspect were identified.

VANDALISM

Officer Tammy J. Mello reports responding to a Country View Drive residence at approximately 7:58 a.m. Jan. 13 for a report of malicious damage to a vehicle.

The reporting party told Mello that his vehicle had been damaged sometime overnight, and it appeared that a large piece of the driver’s side mirror had been broken off.

There were no suspects.

SHOPLIFTING

Officer Tyler J. Mobrice reports responding with other officers to Walmart, 650 Bald Hill Road, on the afternoon of Jan. 13 for a report of a shoplifting in progress.

A loss prevention associate at the scene told police she observed a white male in his mid-30s, standing approximately 5 feet, 9 inches and dressed in a green hat and black jacket, take a remote controller valued at approximately $16 from the electronics department before heading to the pillow aisle, removing the controller from its packaging and concealing it on his person. The man then exited the store without making any attempt to pay for the item.

The suspect could not be located. The loss prevention associate indicated the store wished to press charges if a suspect were identified. The case was forwarded to detectives.

DUI

Officer Ali M. Jaafar reports responding to the area of 295 Jefferson Boulevard at approximately 5:42 p.m. Jan. 8 for a report of a motor vehicle accident with no injuries.

Upon arriving at the scene, the officer reports observing two heavily damaged vehicles, one each in the north and southbound lanes.

The driver of the second vehicle said he was struck from behind while he traveled south on Jefferson Boulevard, causing the vehicle to spin several times before coming to a stop.

Jaafar reports the operator of the first vehicle began to slur his words as the two spoke and had difficulty providing his license plate number. The man also told the officer he had a child, who was unharmed, in the back seat of his vehicle.

Jaafar reports the operator of the first vehicle then agreed to field sobriety testing, which he is said to have failed. Breath tests administered at the scene and later at police headquarters are said to have returned results blood alcohol content readings over the legal limit.

Anthony Michael Dilallo, 36, of 62 Westwood Blvd., Apt. 3, Cranston, was charged with driving under the influence, first offense. He was processed and issued a summons to appear in Third Division District Court.

Officer Derek Mourato reports being on patrol with Officer Randy Bell at approximately 1:36 a.m. Jan. 12 when they observed a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed and swerving on Main Avenue.

A motor vehicle stop was initiated near the intersection with Buttonwoods Avenue. Mourato reports detecting a strong odor of alcohol emanating from the operator’s breath. The operator is also said to have slurred his speech and had bloodshot, watery eyes.

The operator was administered field sobriety testing, which he is said to have failed. The operator was then taken into custody. Breath tests administered at police headquarters are said to have returned blood alcohol content readings over the legal limit.

Andres M. Sarmiento, 42, of 120 Symonda Ave., Warwick, was charged with driving under the influence, first offense. He was also cited for speeding and a laned roadway violation. He was processed and issued a summons to appear in Third Division District Court.
