Warwick Police announced Tuesday that two suspects had been arrested for their involvement in a stabbing that occurred outside of a convenient store in Conimicut on Monday, Feb. 5.
According to the release sent out by Warwick Police Major Rick Rathbun, Kristian Orlando Fonesca, 21, from Hawley Avenue in Warwick was arrested and charged with assault with the intent to commit a felony (murder), violation of a no contact order and an outstanding warrant charge for a violation of a no contact order and domestic malicious damage.
A second suspect, Jasmine Brown, 18, also from Hawley Avenue, was arrested and charged with aiding and abetting (a felony) and simple assault and battery. Brown, who had an active no contact order against Fonesca based on a "previous domestic violence crime committed against her by Fonesca," was arraigned at Warwick Police Headquarters and was released on surety bail. Fonesca was held overnight and was arraigned on Tuesday at Kent County District Court.
The victim was a 20-year-old male who was known by both of the suspects. He was listed as being in "serious condition" and was being treated for multiple stab wounds to the head and neck at the time of the release.
The crime occurred around 5 p.m. on Monday at the Conimicut Variety Store, located at 695 West Shore Road. A witness identified Fonesca and described the two suspects as having an infant with them in a baby stroller and, following the assault, fled the scene on foot. Police located and apprehended both suspects at another unspecified home on Hawley Avenue without incident, and "evidence of the stabbing was also located at the residence."
