The good,
the bad & the ugly
(Not the movie)

With only a half dozen or so good movies to see this past summer, and only an “It” sequel opening last weekend, reviewing movies has become a boring chore.
But wait! There is hope on the horizon as we look to the fall and winter openings of what could be 2019’s selection salvation.
September 14: “The Goldfinch” holds promise. Friends who have read the book are hopeful that the movie is as good. I’m looking forward to Jennifer Lopez playing a pole dancer in “Hustlers.” Joyce is not.
September 21: “Downton Abbey” fans can’t wait for the movie version. Non-fans are curious. “Ad Astra” and “Rambo” will keep the action movie fans happy for a while.
September 28:  “Judy” should interest Judy Garland fans, those who remember her.
October 4: “Joker” is getting a lot of hype. “The Current War,” about the competition between Edison and Westinghouse, wins for best title.
October 11: “Gemini Man” has Will Smith playing himself and his younger clone and shows promise.
October 18: Disney’s back with a dark one, “Maleficent: Mistress of Evil.” Curious as to what the audience is.
November has a biography of Harriet Tubman, civil rights leader, another “Terminator” movie, more “Charlie’s Angels” action and “Frozen II.” December holiday movies include another “Jumanji” and on December 20, the two big ones: “Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker” and “CATS.”  Yet another “Little Women” shows up on Christmas Day.
