Kevin Costner directed and starred in a three-hour futuristic saga called “The Postman,” set in postapocalyptic America in 2013. Former Rhode Islander Ron McClarty had a supporting role.

Robin Williams, Ben Affleck and Matt Damon starred in “Good Will Hunting,” one of the best movies of all time. Daniel Day Lewis starred in “The Boxer,” another well-made film.

Remember Sholes Hillsgrove Country Club, where you could skate every evening at 7 and Saturday and Sunday afternoons from 1 to 4?

Larry Rachleff was at the podium, leading the Rhode Island Philharmonic Orchestra in Dvorak’s New World Symphony.

Neil Simon’s “The Prisoner of Second Avenue” was at City Nights Theatre in Pawtucket, where dinner and a show was $23.

King Buffet, claiming to be “The Largest International Buffet,” held their grand opening in Warwick’s Airport Plaza.

Former Trinity Rep actress Katherine Helmond returned to the area to play Thelma in Marsha Norman’s Pulitzer Prize winning play, “Night, Mother” at Foxboro’s Orpheum Theatre.

The Backstreet Boys played PPAC.

Sam Shephard’s “Simpatico” was at Newgate. Manuel Puig’s “Kiss of the Spiderwoman” was at Perishable.
