Solomon has proven he's qualified

To the Editor,

Political campaigns have become more vicious and divisive than ever. Instead of resting on their own qualifications, some candidates disparage and tear down their opponents. Running a negative campaign does make for more entertaining news, but it also can lead to the election of a candidate to public office for all the wrong reasons. The candidate who wins an election should be more qualified and prepared than their opponent to do the job and should have a track record that illustrates they will excel even in a crisis. Otherwise, there is a risk of electing an unqualified and ill-prepared candidate, who will likely cause more harm than good.

Since taking office, Mayor Joseph Solomon has proven time and again that he is both eminently qualified and steadfast under pressure. Despite the dire state of the City when he took over as mayor - after his predecessor and the finance director both suddenly resigned - with underfunded schools, crumbling infrastructure and recreational facilities that were ignored for years, and multiple legal matters plaguing the City that were slated to cost it millions, Mayor Solomon put his head down and got to work.

Instead of relying on time-worn tactics like empty promises and soap boxing, Mayor Solomon has fought for results. Since taking his oath, Mayor Solomon has increased school funding by millions, finished, begun, or announced the repairs and revitalization of infrastructure and recreational facilities throughout the City, and amicably resolved the multi-million dollar legal matters he was burdened with when he took office. He restored the long forgotten Parks Department so the City ’s recreational facilities never again fall into disrepair, saved the City millions by negotiating the first union contract that requires employees to contribute to other post-employment benefits (OPEB), embarked on a ten million dollar road repavement project, and is slated to roll out a small business

initiative aimed at reviving unused commercial property while empowering business owners at no cost to the City. And this list represents just a fraction of Mayor Solomon ’s accomplishments in his short time at the helm. When you vote, please vote for the best candidate for the job. Vote to reelect Joseph Solomon for Mayor.

Anthony Sinapi

Councilman Ward 8

Unfortunately for the prior 18 years on the Council as Council President and with a Democratic majority he never made influential changes to Mayor Avedisian’s budget. Most of the time he’d vote to approve it. Schools, roads, infrastructure have all declined while taxes go up yearly. Sure we won’t have a tax increase this year but next year the Warwick residents will just get hit harder. He’s done nothing to draw young families back to Warwick and with the conditions of our schools who can blame them. He’s had 20 years.......we don’t need 2 more.

Councilman Sinapi cares more about pleasing the mayor than the residents he serves. Look for this guy to side with Solomon 100% of time, on everything.
