Sen. McKenney receives committee assignments

Senate President Dominick J. Ruggerio has appointed Sen. Mark McKenney (D-Dist. 30, Warwick) to serve on the Senate Judiciary Committee as well as the Special Legislation and Veterans' Affairs Committee. He has also been appointed secretary of the Rules, Government Ethics and Oversight Committee.

The Senate Judiciary Committee handles all legislation and matters which affect the penal code, judicial system, ethics, open meetings, access to public records and election laws.

The Committee on Special Legislation and Veterans Affairs hears legislation and matters relating to constitutional amendments, liquor laws, gaming issues, commissions, resolutions, veterans affairs and laws relating to domestic animals.

The Senate Committee on Rules, Government Ethics and Oversight is charged with monitoring the performance of public organizations and agencies, considering all legislation relating to government ethics, and all matters relating to the operating rules, functions and protocols of the Senate.

Senator McKenney was elected to the chamber in November and was sworn in on Jan. 1.
