An undisclosed number of trees, none of them larger than four inches in diameter, have been removed from the banks of the Pawtuxet River near the bridge under the direction of the Pawtuxet River Authority. Authority chairman Robert Nero said “invasive” species were removed and are being replaced by “native” species. Asked more about the trees, he said, “That’s all I’m going to tell you.” As for whether the authority plans to remove more trees and, if in fact, there is a plan, he said, “We have a master plan for everything we do.” Pawtuxet resident and former chairman of the authority board, Ginny Leslie (pictured here), was troubled to see the trees removed.
