Marijuana grow investigated

Warwick Police officers and other law enforcement personnel worked at the former JONAH Community Center at 830 Oakland Beach Ave. early on the afternoon of Dec. 11, removing a large number of marijuana plants along with chemicals and equipment associated with a growing operation. Details were scarce at the scene, and on Tuesday, Warwick Chief of Police Col. Rick Rathbun said the investigation remains ongoing and the report of the incident is not yet available for release. He did confirm that the apparent marijuana growing operation was discovered when Warwick Fire personnel responded to an alarm activation at the building. At that police, police were called. City property records indicate the property was most recently sold in 2018, to Elmwood Realty LLC. (Warwick Beacon photos)
