For the past 65 years Dedham, Mass. American Legion Post 18 has helped observe Flag Day with a parade that steps off at 6 p.m. on June 14 and concludes with the lowering of the flag. The pandemic put a stop to the parade, but not to the fervor of members of the Dedham American Legion Band. Jeanette Berger, a trumpet player and founder of the band five years ago called on its Rhode Island members to perform at her home on Ruby Street off West Shore Road for Memorial Day. That went so well that they came together again on Sunday for a Flag Day neighborhood concert. Past Commander of the post Henry Young and his wife Linda attended the performance. Berger is seen with Harald “Andy” Larsen. Other members of the band performing included Tom Archer, Jim Seigfried and Kim Shaw. The band numbers more than 16 musicians and usually has about 15 performances a year, but that won’t be the case this year. (Warwick Beacon photos)
