After a one-year hiatus and a rebuilding of its numbers, the Rhode Island Kennel Club, the second oldest kennel club in the country behind Westminster in New York, returned to Thayer Arena for its 127th and 128th All-Breed Dog Shows, obedience trials and 25th and 26th rally trials. Nearly 600 dogs representing 107 breeds competed over the two-day show. Club president and show chair Kim Walsh said the club loves using the arena, as it is affordable and the city is always so welcoming. Club members remarked on the new lighting in the arena and its cleanliness. Show proceeds fund club programs including dog rescues and information classes. “We’re looking to get more people involved,” said Walsh. The show ended Sunday afternoon with Mayor Joseph Solomon presenting the best of show award.
