Westbound traffic on Centerville Road over the Route 2 bridge will face a detour until this summer, Charles St. Martin, spokesman for the Rhode Island Department of Transportation, said Monday. Built in 1951, the bridge is being completely rebuilt under a $6.1 million contract. While two-way traffic is expected to be restored this summer, St. Martin said the project wouldn’t be fully completed until next year. He said narrowing the traffic to a single lane rather than attempting to avoid a detour saved about six months on the project. That section of Centerville Road averages 28,000 vehicles daily, he said. (Warwick Beacon photo)
