The state Department of Transportation placed barriers along the East Natick Bridge over the Pawtuxet River after crash railings on the Iway failed to do their job. Following that incident, said DOT spokesman Charles St. Martin, the DOT looked at 20 bridges using similar railings and found that several including the East Natick Bridge were not properly anchored into the bridge rebar. “There’s no safety or structural issue,” St. Martin said. Built at a cost of $7 million by Manafort Brothers Construction, the bridge was completed in 2013. St. Martin said Manafort would correct the deficiencies at their expense by the end of this year. He said DOT put up the barriers out of “an abundance of caution.” The Iway bridge was built by Cardi Brothers; railing repairs are underway. (Warwick Beacon photo)
