Pats overwhelm Cougars with balance at offensive end

Matt Woods paced four Pilgrim players in double-figures with a team-high 18 points, as the Pats improved to 3-4 in Division II with an 81-53 rout of North Providence at home on Tuesday night.

Pilgrim took control of the game in the middle of the first half, ultimately taking an 11-point lead into halftime.

In the second half, the Pats’ lead would grow to an insurmountable margin, outscoring the Cougars, 40-23, over the final 16 minutes to secure the blowout win.

In addition to Woods, Will Pariseau (14 points), Joe Gionti (12 points) and Devin Franco (11 points) were all in double-figures. David D’Andrea also added eight points, while Xavier Monteiro and Wilfredo Burgos scored six points apiece.

North Providence’s Tyreek Jones netted a game-high 21 points, and Nick Mollo also had a strong game with 13 points, but the Cougars came up well short in the defeat.

Pilgrim will look to keep its momentum going on Friday night when it hosts Barrington at 7 p.m.

Titans hold off Lions

A strong first half helped the Toll Gate boys’ basketball team earn a 69-59 victory, the team’s third league win of the season, over Lincoln on Monday.

Titans’ junior Brandon Scott scored 15 of his game-high 17 points in the first half en route to Toll Gate taking a 12-point lead into the break.

The Lions would battle until the end, outscoring the Titans, 31-29, in the second half, but that first-half deficit proved to be too much to overcome for the visitors.

Toll Gate’s offensive attack featured tremendous balance with five scorers in double-figures. Brandon Fogarty produced the team’s lone double-double with 14 points and 10 boards, while Kavi Simpson (13 points), Joel Roache (11 points) and Francisco Lopez (10 points) were also key offensive contributors.

Lincoln had three players in double-figures, led by Tyler McNulty with a team-high 13 points.

Toll Gate will be back in action at home against Juanita Sanchez at 7 p.m. on Friday night.
