Pilgrim grabbed its second win of the season on Monday night, as junior McKenna Leahy scored her team-leading 10th goal late in the second half to send the Pats past North Kingstown, 3-2, in a Division I girls’ soccer matchup.

First-half goals from Alexis Vieira and Giulia Marsella got Pilgrim out to a 2-0 advantage heading into halftime, before the Skippers made a push in the second half.

North Kingstown got a pair of goals from Alexandra Amore after the break, with her second tally coming in the 74th minute to knot the score at 2.

But, Leahy would come up with another big goal for the Pats, blasting a shot by the keeper six minutes later for the eventual game-winner.

Leahy and Vieira also each added an assist in the win, and Madison Dowling was strong in net with eight saves, in addition to picking up an assist on one of Pilgrim’s goals.

Pilgrim is now 2-5-2 in league play and will return to the pitch for a 3:30 p.m. game against Cranston West (5-4-1) at Hope Road Complex this afternoon.

Hawks bounce back with win

After enduring its first loss of the season at South Kingstown on Thursday, the Hendricken soccer team responded with a convincing, 5-2 win against Tolman at home Tuesday night.

Forward Chukwuma Onyejose and midfielder Kevin Torrico each posted a goal and two assists to lead the way offensively for the Hawks.

Chukwudi Onyejose also had a big game for Hendricken, finishing off a pair of goals. Zack Sousa netted a goal of his own, as well, and Noah Perry added an assist.

Hendricken is set for another tough test on Friday night, when it will travel to Portsmouth (4-2-1) for a 7 p.m. start.
