Robert W. Nicholson, 83, died Saturday, January 12, 2019. He was the beloved husband for 56 years of Claire E. (Hartley) Nicholson.
He was a son of the late Warren and Ruth (Theall) Nicholson. Bob received his Bachelor’s Degree at Providence College, and his Master’s in Education at RIC. He had a 30 year career in Education with the Warwick School Department. He started as a Math and Science teacher, served as Dean of Students, worked in Guidance, served as a Vice Principal and retired as Principal of Gorton Jr. High School in 1990. He was a member of the National Assoc. of School Principals and RI Assoc. of Retired School Principals. After his retirement he had worked in Pharmaceutical Sales for Syntex. He served in the United States Navy during the Korean War and was involved in the ROTC program while at PC. He loved Narragansett Bay, quahogging and sailing, especially to Block Island. He was also an avid skier.
He was the beloved father of Kathleen Maymon (Russell) and Cheryl A. Pollock (Richard); loving grandfather of Dr. Christopher, Kelsey, Brendan Maymon, Richard and Haley Pollock; brother of Richard Nicholson and Virginia Peterson.
His funeral will be held Wednesday, January 16, 2019, at 9:00 a.m. from the Thomas & Walter Quinn Funeral Home, 2435 Warwick Ave., Warwick, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m.in St. Kevin Church, Sandy Lane, Warwick.
