The Ocean State Center for Independent Living (OSCIL) will be hosting a free Lunch & Learn Workshop “Rights of individuals with disabilities under the Fair Housing Act” on Wednesday, November 28 at its Warwick location at 1944 Warwick Avenue and on Thursday, November 29 at 175 Main Street in Pawtucket.  Both workshops run from 12-2 p.m.

Presenter Kristina da Fonseca, Executive Director of South Coast Fair Housing will discuss the rights of individuals with disabilities, including individuals who are Deaf, Hard of Hearing and blind, under the Fair Housing Act. Topics will include reasonable accommodations, such as allowing a live-in aid if a tenant needs such assistance, and the acceptance of service animals in a building with a “no pets” policy.

As part of OSCIL’s mission to provide outreach, education and opportunities for peer support, OSCIL offers these free Lunch and Learn workshops highlighting various solutions that can increase access in your home and community.

Advance registration is required; call 738-1013 if you plan to attend. Seating is limited. Lunch (pizza) will be served. A sign language interpreter and CART have been secured.

United Way’s 211 RV will be onsite at the Warwick location on Wednesday, November 28 to answer questions about other available resources in Rhode Island and beyond.
