Gasoline prices in Rhode Island are up two cents this week, according to AAA Northeast.
AAA Northeast’s June 1 survey of prices in Rhode Island finds self-serve, regular unleaded averaging $1.98 per gallon. Rhode Island’s price is one cent higher than the national price of $1.97. A year ago at this time, the average price in Rhode Island was 83 cents higher at $2.81 per gallon.
Part of the incremental jump can be attributed to increases in gasoline demand nationally, which saw a 7% week-over-week increase. However, demand is still down nearly 25% compared to last year, according to the Energy Information Administration’s (EIA) latest reports.
“Americans are slowly but steadily returning to driving, causing gas prices to increase across the country,” said Lloyd Albert, Senior Vice President of AAA Public and Government Affairs. “The good news is gas is still cheap. Motorists can fill-up for $2/gallon or less at 70% of gas stations across the country.”
The range in prices in the latest AAA survey for unleaded regular is 57 cents, from a low of $1.72 to a high of $2.29. AAA advises motorists to shop around for the best prices in their area. Please remember to slow down and move over for any emergency vehicles on the side of the road.
