Real food fast at b.good


It is kind of an oddity that a restaurant with such good food and service chose to identify itself with lower case letters.

b.good is more than good. It is the answer for those of us who want our food fast, fresh and “real.”

The Garden City restaurant has opened a second location on the East Side’s Thayer St., across from the Avon, now catering to the more eclectic tastes Cranston’s upscale shoppers and the students at Brown and RISD.

Their Real Food menu shows us that their beef and soda come from Maine, cheese and bacon from Vermont, potatoes and ice cream from Massachusetts, seasonal produce from Massachusetts and Rhode Island, and bread from Calise’s bakery in Rhode Island. Famous for their fresh salads, b.good also prepares incredible burgers and sandwiches.

On our last visit, Joyce enjoyed the Chicken Caesar salad ($8.99), made before her eyes with romaine lettuce, parmesan cheese, homemade croutons and a lemon-Caesar dressing.

We noticed many of the young health-conscious folks eating the Harvest Kale ($6.49), a combination of marinated kale, Brussels sprouts, manchego cheese, sunflower seeds, beets, garbanzo beans, with a sherry vinaigrette dressing.

Four kale and grain bowls, including Spicy Avacado & Lime, Toasted Almond & Ginger and Local Apple & Bacon, plus a seasonal special are popular items.

I love their burgers, all-natural and house-ground. You have your choice of beef, turkey or veggie or an all-natural grilled chicken sandwich. Try the Buffalo Burger, with buffalo sauce, blue cheese, marinated carrots and shaved celery.

Like the salads, there is always a seasonal special. I ordered the seasonal special, Elizel, a juicy burger, that was topped with red pepper aioli, caramelized onion, sharp cheddar cheese, marinated carrots, asparagus and a tasty sauce. ($7.49). The sweet potato sides are a popular item at $3.29.

The smoothies include kale crush, Lucy blue (blueberries, almond butter, dates, almond milk, lemon, and cinnamon), acai berry and strawberry banana. Milkshakes use Toscanini’s ice cream from Cambridge, Mass.
