Raposo enjoys historic season

Kat Raposo made quite the name for herself in the Community College of Rhode Island women’s basketball program during her two years as a Knight.

Raposo, a Warwick native and Pilgrim High School graduate, was named team captain this season, and filled the role as a leader in impressive fashion. Raposo finished the 2018-19 season as the Knights’ top scorer, and was named to the Region XV/XXI All-Tournament team as she averaged 30 points per game in the postseason. Her playoff performance pushed her overall points per game average to an impressive 17 for the year.

“We worked really hard toward the end of the season to get as far as we did, especially since not everyone was expecting it. We also had a lot of losses but were able to get to .500 and districts which was a good feeling,” said Raposo of the team’s campaign and playoff run. “We played really well down the stretch, but unfortunately were not able to go all the way.”

Although the team had an up-and-down season as a whole, Raposo was excited to improve as a player, and show that she could lead a collegiate-level program on the big stage.

“We were down a few girls so we needed someone to put up the numbers. I also had to be a good leading player, making sure that I made the right passes, so I did whatever I had to do to help the team out,” said Raposo. “It was a really good, successful season for me. Whether it was scoring, making the right pass, it was a very successful season and I wouldn’t change anything about it.”

Raposo, who also was a key player for the Knights’ soccer club in the fall, hopes to continue her playing career in basketball at a four-year school, and hopes that her recent success will help propel her into the spotlight and onto local coaches’ radars.

“I think that it’s great how I ended the season,” said Raposo. “Hopefully colleges will look at what I did as a role player, see how I scored points, assists, and did whatever I had to do to make it work.”
