Police Log - 12/27/18

VANDALISM
On December 18 at approximately 10 a.m. Officer Rose Michel met with a complainant in the lobby of police headquarters to take a report regarding malicious damage.
The woman told the officer that she entered her Subaru Outback, which was parked in her driveway on Harrop Avenue, and at the time did not notice any damage to her vehicle. She then drove to the Bald Hill Road Target to shop, and returned approximately 45 minutes later. At that time, she did not notice any damage to her vehicle and drove home.
When she arrived at her residence, she noticed that the driver’s side door had a small indentation the size of a pellet. She stated it appeared that her vehicle had been shot by a pellet gun. A written statement was taken, and there are no suspects or witnesses.

STOLEN CONVERTER
At approximately 3:32 p.m. on December 17, Officer Charles Austin was dispatched to Laid Back Fitness on Post Road for a report of a larceny.
At the scene he spoke with the business owner, who stated that a truck belonging to the business was missing the catalytic converter. He said that he had been at the business on December 15 at approximately 11:30 a.m., and the truck was fine at that time. When he came back on the 17th, the truck’s exhaust was hanging down and the converter was missing. He stated that he wished to press charges if the suspect is located. The report was forwarded to detectives for further investigation.

STOLEN JACKET
Officer Rose Michel met with a reporting party at police headquarters on December 13 at approximately 1 p.m. for a larceny report.
The complainant stated that his North Face jacket, valued at $180, was stolen from the Sonic restaurant on Bald Hill Road. He said that he visited the restaurant on December 8 with his family. They sat at a booth and he removed his jacket, and that they stayed for approximately one hour. He also indicated that there was a woman, approximately 45 years old with reddish blonde hair who sat behind him at another booth.
When he got up to leave he was unable to find his jacket. He spoke with a manager and advised her of the incident. The manager stated that she would review security footage and advise him of their findings. The man left the business without contacting the police. He was later notified that surveillance did capture the incident. A report was then taken from the complainant for further follow up.

WARRANT
In December 21 at 3:05 a.m., Officer Christopher Cote was dispatched to the area of 1100 Quaker Lane for a report of some type of metal object in the roadway. He checked the area but was unable to locate anything in the roadway. However. he did observe a disabled car parked in the area of 966 Quaker Lane.
The officer stopped to check on the vehicle and made contact with the driver and the passenger. The driver advised that their vehicle was damaged and that they were waiting for a tow truck. She said that she was the reporting party for the metal object and that her vehicle had been damaged by it as it was struck while driving.
Background checks of the passenger, identified as Jahira Rivera, 34, of 76 Hamilton Street in Dorchester, Mass., had an active outstanding warrant. She was taken into custody and transported to police headquarters where she was processed. She was later transported to the women’s intake center at the ACI.

While on patrol on Bald Hill Road on December 22 at approximately 1:22 a.m., Officer Kyle Fitzsimmons observed a Honda van traveling at approximately 20 miles per hour in a 35 mile per hour zone. The vehicle’s brakes were tapped while driving and the van crossed into the left hand lane with both driver’s side wheels once. A traffic stop was then conducted.
Contact was made with the driver, Lesly Pineyro, 43, of 9 Kristen Drive in North Providence. She stated that she was on her way home from a restaurant when her passenger discovered that she may have left her phone at the establishment. She was debating on whether to turn her vehicle around and therefore was driving slowly.
A background check revealed that Pineyro had an active warrant from the Providence Police Department. She was then taken into custody and transported to police headquarters while her passenger took possession of the car. Pineyro was later transported to the Providence Police Department.

On December 12 at approximately 7:11 p.m., Officer Ali Jaafar was backing up Officer Steven Moretti on a motor vehicle stop when he noticed a vehicle pass the scene with illegal sunscreen material installed on its windows. He then followed the vehicle onto Warwick Avenue.
A traffic stop was conducted, and the officer noticed that the passenger door immediately opened. He observed a subject step out and run from the vehicle. The officer pursued on foot and chased the subject, later identified as Jesse Farrell, 33, of 1838 Pawtucket Avenue in East Providence, and eventually detained him behind the Cozy Grill. Other officers arrived on scene to assist with the arrest.
Farrell was found to have outstanding bench warrants, two out of the Sixth District Court and one out of the Third District Court. He was transported to police headquarters where he was booked and processed. He was searched, which produced an OxyContin pill and another unidentified pill. The driver of the suspect vehicle was cited for unlawful installation of illegal sunscreen.

SHOPLIFTING
At approximately 8:14 p.m. on November 27, Officer Thomas Greene was dispatched to the Bald Hill Road Macy’s for a report of a shoplifting in progress. Prior to arriving at the scene, dispatch advised the officer that the suspects had left in a black Honda Civic with a spare tire on the front driver’s side. The suspects were described as a black male and female.
At the store, Officer Greene made a brief check of the area then met with the reporting party who provided additional information on the suspects and their appearance. A witness called in and provided the registration of the suspect vehicle, which was reported stolen out of Cranston.
Surveillance footage of the incident showed the two suspects rapidly taking items and merchandise and then exiting the store. The getaway vehicle was also confirmed. A receipt of the merchandise taken, valued at $790, was provided to the police.

On December 18, members of the Rhode Island Violent Fugitive Task Force responded to 182 Thurbers Avenue in Providence to serve an outstanding warrant for Raul Perez, 18, of 90 Miner Street in Providence. Perez was identified as the suspect in the shoplifting incident. He was taken into custody and transported to Warwick Police Headquarters. He was issued a no trespassing order from the Warwick Mall property and released with a Third District Court summons.
